AMD XP 2000 and ECS K7VTA3 v.8 $69.99 at Fry's

I bought this combo tonight. The board is brand new. The new chip is a thoroughbred. Deal lasts till 10/28 at Austin Fry's. They keep the new boards in back and the chips at the checkout counter. Chip is OEM, no heatsink/fan unless you want to buy the $10 one they have while you're there.

Not sure if this is it but here are the letters: AIXHB 0331MPMW above that: AXDA2000UT3C.
The chip's color is pinkish.

you could probably look it up on overclockers.com forums. seems like a newer stepping, idon't quite recognize it, i'm a little outa date on the newest steppings could o/c like crazy.

my friend just got this board too, he says it DOES o/c like crazy. hes still on a stock fan, stepped up the voltages a little, and says its running 325mhz over stock ghz stable. wow!

confirmed v.8 in Fountain Valley, CA (they are in NEWLY DESIGNED/LABELED boxes btw (not the old green ones, but new white/red/yellow/green), had to open one to make sure )

fugger at fountain valley told me they were out of the XP 2000's yesterday! they also should have a 2400 comboed w/ that board for $89 as listed in the LA times but he wouldn't recognize it and I didn't have an ad yesterday =\

can anybody confirm who got the KT7VTA3 v.8 board has only 2 memory slots? Sometimes what ECS has on the website is compleatly different what sells in the store.

I hope the deal comes back this weekend with the v.5 version of the board since it has 3 memory slots. ( I have several 256MB sticks and would like to use them)

i can confirm the ecs board has only 2 ddr slots. i bought 3 combos for friends over the weekend. all 3 were brand new boards but i got one dead one in the group. i just exchanged it today so i hope it goes well when i plug it in later on tonite. i don't think you can beat this combo in terms of value, except the 1800 retail combo they had a few weeks ago. that could have saved me an extra 10 dollars on a heatsink.

v8 boards do have somethings better than v5 boards.

- smaller board size
- uses KT333CF chipset over the KT333CE chipset.

Even though the CF chipset has slightly better memory performance, I'd still prefer the extra DIMM slot on the v5 given I have some RAM that is reusable.

Hell, usually shipping is nothing compared to when you have to pay tax on a higher priced item out here......unless of course you can find it retail in DE, no sales tax state and only an hour south....

An Athlon XP 2000+ can be either a Tbred-A or Tbred-B core. The Tbred-B cores are more overclockable due to changes made (metal interconnect layers increased by 1, possibly other material and small design changes). If you're not going to overclock, it doesn't matter which one you get. They run at exactly the same performance.
