site in chinese

click the bottom links for page2 and see the "rubber conductor" i am talking about and the rest to see how they do them.

Hmmm..is this better than using a conductive pen? Should I get this? I already have a conductive pen...but this has everything and an instruction sheet...need to think about it...

No doubt the method given by THG work, but compare the work, i will use the method given by gzeasy.com
because
(1) price, if i can find where to buy the "rubber conductor" (We REPLACE, but the developing country REPAIR, make it difficult to find a repair shop for NOKIA that has these thing)
(2) Not a permanent solution, it can be take out anytime (think about the warranty) and reuseable
(3) Error proof. THG need to get tapes, and fill the gap.... easy to screw up.

Guys, just buy the "defroster repair kit" at the auto parts store for $5 and apply it with a toothpick. It's conductive paint just like all these other things but it comes in a nail-polish style jar. It's easy, semi-permanent, cheap, and right down the street from you.

The "Rubber Conductor" is the connector that sits between the LCD display and the circuit board of the cell phone. Since the conducting wires are thin and fragile, it is packaged in rubber or foam plastic. It can be found on almost any type of cell phones (I'm sure the Ericsson 768/788 series has them) so if you have a dead cell phone lying around, take it apart & you can find it there.

Worms is 100% right. Just fill in the valley with superglue. Let it dry and shave of the excess with a knife. Then use the conductive paint from a rear window defroster repair kit to connect the dots. Works great.

I used scotch tape to keep the super glue from running where I didnt want it. Makes the shaving step much easier.

Go to your cell phone service provider store where there is a technician, ask for the conductive rubber used to connect LCD & PCB. Mostly likely they have many kinds, get a multimeter to test them, pick the one with least electric resistance.

edit: by the way you can also find the "rubber" in LCD watches, handheld calculators.

Wow, I just looked at that chinese site to see what this rubber stuff is. What a PITA! All that driving around to calculator repair shops, measuring with metric rulers, and cutting and then this: "first uses the cotton and kapok bamboo slip in the installment to..."

Bamboo?

Guys, what are you thinking? Just dip a toothpick in the conductive paint and touch it to the contacts. No super glue, no tape, no bamboo, no cell phones, just a tiny dot of paint on each of the 3 or 4 bridges. Yeah, they're small, but jeez it's really not that tough. If you are in late stage Parkinson's you may need a retry or two - no problem, just wipe with paint thinner and then polish clean with a pencil eraser. You really can do this without bamboo!

fandudeals: There are traces on the top of the processor packaging that are laser cut after assembly. It is your task to re-connect them.

<< worms, can the conductive paint be removed without trace? >>

If you use a solvent like acetone/choloroform etc.

Do you still need to fill in the gaps? Worm makes it sound like you don't need to and the defogger paint can bridge it instead.

For those of you not aware of the specific differences from the old TBird/Duron to the XP/MP, there is a reason why you can't just use a conductive pen or a pencil to connect the bridges. There is now a valley of sorts between the bridges. If you just draw across this, you will get your conductive line down into the valley, and apparently there is a conductive line of something in there. When you connect several bridges, they all end up also conducting to each other through this valley cut, shorting out your CPU, and killing it. Thus, you need to put something in the valley to prevent this cross connect. HardOCP.com had a detailed guide to doing this recently. As said above, you just need to put something non-conductive in to this valley, clean it up so it isn't in the way, and draw your lines connecting the bridges like you did with the TBird/Durons.

Ahh... Hence the super glue (or bamboo). I didn't realize the bridges had been changed.

worm, may be you are not reading the org. Chinese. I did. and there is not need to use anything special... the q-tips are to clean up the surface. the bamboo (?) or the metal are to push the conductor into a right position. You can use your finger.

as it is a very cheap way to unlock it without even risk to void warranty. All you have to do is find the right piece and cut it the right size. stick it on the gates.

From the page, its said the distance between the bridge of XP is longer than the TB, so using pencil is not a good way, and the valley of L1 (the page said only L1) has a resistor some sort (do not know the exact name). The traditional way is fill them out with non-conditive material and connect the bridge on top of it. All people use this way (may be with the kit) can still fail.... and may be have to do a clean up work before you can retry. If you use the gzeasy.com 's method, you simply reposition the conductive rubber and you are done. Much less messy.

I am thinking this is a absolute cheap way to do it.... and a good business too. think about get some of these (from broken watch or calculators) and sell it on *bay for $10.99 (No messy unlock kit) woo!

I am extremely wary of doing this to my XP 1700+.
Will it do my particular chip any good? What can I expect from it
after unlocking it?
Can anyone in the Atlanta area HELP me do this?

I bought one of these kits, it has everything you need: cleaner, filler, conductive grease, pin, magnafyeing glass and instructions. L1 bridges are very small but with a little pratice can be done in short time 30min to 1 hr. Mine however would not use a higher multiplier (1600+ and Dragon+). Setting a higher x would give me a post reading "Athlon 1266" . Multiplier set to auto reads "1600+". Good luck.
