AMD's 2GB 5870 Price Point?

Where do you think the 2GB HD5870 will end up and will the 1GB 5870 drop in price to the $350.00 price point to compete directly with Nvidia's GTX 470?

That sounds like a good response for AMD to me. They will leave the HD5970 to do battle with the GTX 480 and not worry about a dual Fermi card IMO. A dual Fermi card is going to be off the charts with Heat & Power so I doubt many people would even consider it if and when it is released. I guess MSRP of $449 for the 2GB model (real price just below $500). 50 bucks cheaper than a GTX480 MSRP (which will sell for ~$550). The 1GB price won't change and remain at $379 MSRP -> north of $400 at stores.

Yeah, I'm not so positive about the future...

I'd imagine a straight up $50 premium on a stock card... Mind you I also expect most if not all of the 2gb cards to be special non reference builds.

However, the 6 DP version of the 2gb has been mentioned to have an MSRP greater than the 5970, that may well be the only 'stock' 2GB card.

Do the math. Vanilla 5870s are retailing for 409 to 419. There's an extra gigabyte of expensive DDR5 on there, and AFAIK it's double the chips as well.

I made a decision to sell my 5850s to get something new for the Fermi release. Upon seeing that 2 fermis and 2 2gb 5870s === 1000... I pulled the trigger on a 5970.
