Isn't that article kind of old? It's like 20 weeks old. Oh wait. Never mind. Parts that were ordered on 7-2 would be arriving on 11-19 if the 20 week lead time is right. But I though DrMosfet's had a shorter lead time for some reason.

figure in time to run the boards, box and ship them dec 13th sounds ver reasonable.

The article also states that this is an ongoing problem. We might be supply contrained for a while yet.

"According to iSuppli, the imbalance in analog ICs is likely to continue through year end, with lead times likely to continue to stretch out, and ASPs likely to keep rising."

This whole topic should have been stopped on day one . I still waiting for the day the op tells us phone convesation . That should be really good .
i simply confirmed what TweakTown News published. And although i originally had permission to publish it as news, evidently it wasn't supposed to be public and the permission was rescinded the same day.

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/17512...o_bite_into_after_13th_of_december/index.html

Error 404 - Sorry, we cannot find that page...

The page you requested is not here or has changed
And as you can see, Tweaktown took it down also.

So, there is no delay ... no "on time" ... there is simply nothing official .. not any longer
:\

Entertainment.

It amazes me, but the banter between Keys and Nemesis is really putting a smile on my face. I can only say thank you to both of you, since my weekend and the start of my week has been exceptionally bad until now.

Why don't you guys get a room. Jeez.

Their discussion is relevant...your interjection of derogatory commentary to stifle it is not.

Please post something of value and relevance to the discussion...if you cannot then you are expected to refrain from posting.

He's looking for proof/sources to some of the posters wild assertions!!
Is it really that hard to comprehend

that poster has a history of making things up. or, to be more charitable, he has a history of getting bad information from usually-reputable sources. either way, I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that charlie is more reliable, and at least with charlie most people expect a lot of things are made up anyway.

NO keys weres the official link . You offerred nothing but a tale wagging dog.

why are you so mad?

Ask apoppin. he's a reviewer for a tech site, he actually spoke on the phone to amd pr, he's a member in good standing here, and he has a history of supporting ati. heck, he was the only person in the entire world to like the 2900xt more than 8800gtx! if you read the beginning of this thread, it was started by apoppin as well, and he's the one who said that cayman was delayed. I guess we could just call apoppin a liar and claim that jhh has used some sort of jedi mind trick to convert him to the green side, but I think that the odds of that are probably less than 10%.

edit: nevermind, I see that he chimed in.

nemesis, if you haven't been following the news then your confusion is understandable, but this is old now. neither techreport nor, especially, apoppin imho had any reason to lie/stretch the truth about this. face it, amd hasn't executed this round as they did in the past few launches (we'll give them the benefit of the doubt with 58x0 since nvidia had the same issue and launched so much later). As I've sad ad nauseum, if they roll out something kickass on 12/13 then all will be forgiven; if, as seems much more likely, they roll out something "meh" but price it aggressively then the amd fanboys will be happy and nvidia fans will be crowing. let the nvidia guys talk a bit, they've been downtrodden for the past 15 mos or so and eventually saying things like "...but, but, PHSYX" or "you know, amd doesn't have 3d vision" starts to lose its legs.

I got links for ya and some words that would get me permi banned, But I will stay comport.

If you have something ban worthy to say to me, you can PM me. It will be in confidence and I wouldn't mind a word or two in your direction either. So have at it.

Their discussion is relevant...your interjection of derogatory commentary to stifle it is not.

While the discussion is relevant, are comments between users (particularly from a moderator that I would expect to lead by example) that they'd like to say words to each other that would get them banned the accepted way of things on this forum? It seems to this newbie like a very informative forum, with a good review section on the main site, but I don't know why these sort of posts are condoned. I'm struggling to learn the rules here.

Re: "I don't know why these sort of posts are condoned. I'm struggling to learn the rules here"

We expect new posters to acclimate themselves to the forum rules and guidelines and lurk a bit while learning before posting in the wrong venues.

Your post for example is entirely in the wrong venue...it should be made in the Personal Forum Issues sub-forum. (the same place you will find the forum guidelines posted)

Since you have already added your post to this thread I will share some of the reasoning why the posting activity you see here is allowed to be here.

Moderators are allowed to post as members. All members are expected to be mature enough to know that the moderator's "member posts" are to be interpreted as nothing more than simply a member post.

This policy is intentional for the very fact mods are not anonymous but they are volunteer and unpaid.

We don't have guidelines for the sake of just having guidelines. The guideline exists for a reason.

I stand by the guidelines and I will enforce them wherever it is my fiducial responsibility to do so.

Keysplayr has every right that is extended to any member in deciding for himself whether or not he wishes to engage in any discussion in any sub-forum here.

You are entitled to the opinion that this is not the right approach, but you need to understand why Keysplayr is entitled to the right to choose his approach.

I don't expect you to agree with the guidelines, but I do expect you to abide by them while they are in effect.

The discussion above in this thread has merit in this thread in that it directly challenges the notion of relevance and credibility placed on rumors in general.

Allowing these guys to dig into it a little bit is helpful to anyone who has contemplated the same, for those who haven't or don't wish to then they really should avoid rumor threads to begin with as disappointed is an outcome with high probability in such an approach.

If you, or any other member, wishes to discuss the topic of why the topic is allowed then please take it to the proper sub-forum, VC&G is not the proper sub-forum to debate forum guidelines or moderator actions.

What was that saying about a river in Egypt?

As said before, if 6970 is faster than 580 for around the same price, or a little slower for much less, nobody will remember the delay.

Well, there was never any official launch date for fermi so it was probably never realy delayed...

Amazing we had to wait for a full version of the gf100 chip until november 2010. And what a killer it would have been if it would have worked in September 2009.

But delay, nah...

if it hadn't been talked up so much then maybe the path fermi took on being late could have been avoided. the truth is AMD isn't paper launching officially and we haven't see plywood models.

Agreed, nvidia did handle the fermi delay lousy on multiple levels. It's not comparable at all with this situation. AMD is probably not telling the full story, but beside from that it's refreshing with their straightforward no-nonsense communication IMHO.

I was only having some fun on the question of "delay".

TechSpot and Hocp refer to a PR statement :
Though there is no link to a pdf, or actual quote.
http://www.techspot.com/news/41126-amd-talks-cayman-delay-commits-to-december-launch.html
"According to a PR statement by Chris Hook, AMD is pinning the new launch date for the week of December 13"
Are these stories referring to the original email in the OP ?

No, this is just irresponsible reporting by TechSpot and shoddy journalism that doesn't say that their story is 100% made up by Fudzilla. It is a lie. Chris Hook made no such PR statement.

Nordic Hardware.com - November 15, 2010

"There have been rumors of AMD's delay of Radeon HD 6900 series would be poor availability of power regulators from Texas Instruments. This was confirmed by our sources, but it wasn't the only reason for the delay. The power supply of the Radeon HD 6900 series is much like the one used by the Radeon HD 6800 cards with Barts GPU, which has also affected the availability of the series.

The information from AMD is otherwise relatively scarce, but it seems pretty clear that the delay is not because AMD has tried to revise specifications in order to meet with GeForce GTX 580. According to PowerColor Radeon HD 6970 will offer 30-50% better performance than current generation graphics cards."

=========================

^^ what PowerColor rep. actually said was that HD6900 series' performance will be 30-50% faster than the current HD6800 series (2m:50s into the video).

TechPowerup's averages for GTX580 over HD6870
1920x1200 = +43%
2560x1600 = +45%

Computerbase.de averages for GTX580 over HD6870
1920x1080 8AA = +39%
2560x1600 = +61%

Average of these 4 = +47% advantage over HD6870. Looks like HD6970 is going to come very close to the 580 if her estimate is correct. I still expect AMD to be faster in Crysis and BF:BC2. The rest is prob a toss up.

Here is my last update here:

They took it down

http://www.techspot.com/news/41126-amd-talks-cayman-delay-commits-to-december-launch.html
Our original story has been taken down as requested by AMD due to a conflict with NDA bound information. Moreover, the post indicated that an AMD PR spokesperson had confirmed the release date for the upcoming Cayman-based Radeon HD 6970 and 6950 graphics cards, this according to another tech rumor site. AMD has denied this ever took place so we have removed the allegedly false report.

When launched, the 6900 series should include three models all targeted at high-end desktops: the 6950 should replace the 5850 with a good balance between price and performance, the 6970 debuts as the new single-GPU flagship, while the 6990 will use two Cayman chips and replace the current HD 5970. Hopefully, AMD will be able to make it worth the wait.
As a lesson, NEVER use Fudzilla for ANYTHING credible. They simply make lies up to gain traffic. i have lost all respect for a FUD site that post libelous statements as fact
- worst of all, credible sites report Fudzilla's garbage as "news"

Thanks for your interest. C-ya later!

^ Robert was all over this statement right here.

the 6950 should replace the 5850 with a good balance between price and performance.

Just so were clear on this Who from AMD made that statement . Because Robert will see if that was ever said . He is very quick to point out that the 6850 does that job rather well once Xf is in the MIX . Fact is once you add x2 6850s into the mix its faster than a 580. for less money and a new power supply unit isn't needed if you have a 500 watt unit now. So Robert is very much wanting to here name of AMD rep. That said the 6950 is replacement for 5850 . Hell most all here can see that for the lie that it is . as the 6870 beats up the 5850.

^ good one. Amd will release in 2010 the 6970/6950. Thats really all they have said . I pretty sure they will until 5870 5850 stock remains high. Getting rid of old stock is important . Intel is almost giving OEMs old outdated cpus now that SB is ready for launch

I expect some serious price drops on 58xx series products soon to clear inventory. Shortly afterwords I expect a solid launch date or maybe the 2 will coincide.

You're saying that the 6950 isn't the replacement for the 5850 because even the 6870 is faster than the 5850? The 6870 is faster, because equipment moves on, that doesn't mean the 6950 isn't the proper replacement of the 5850.
