they only say that x86 is "dead" b/c they don't have access to it atm. nvidia taking over amd would be a huge coup imho, the combined company would literally own the entire pc gaming market. intel would still own a huge % of the total graphics market so regulatory approval would probably be a cinch as well.

Other than Intel, who is making a profit on x86? This may be why NVIDIA chose to move in another direction. Also the PC gaming market is small potatoes compared to the mobile market or the overall desktop market.

Honestly I think AMD would have to file bankruptcy first as I don't think anyone will want to absorb their debt.

I suppose NVIDIA could as well, but I think they have made it clear that x86 is dead to them.

and u dont think the FTC will block that with Nvidia owning ATI as well after that merger?

Lemme rub some salt on this thread also.

AMD was not present @ CES.
If they were, they had a TINY TINY TINY booth i missed.
The only guys wearing AMD shirts i saw were the guys at wired.

Has KitGuru ever been right about anything, ever? Just wondering. The list of things they are right about seems much shorter than the list of things they were wrong about.

No, I dont think the FTC would break it down as far as integrated/discreet. Intel currently owns the graphics market by far.

Kinda makes sense . Robert said that BD is weaK . and the bobcats certainly aren't gamers on netbooks . Not at the very low FPS shown on released products . The prerelease previews were a sham.

I have to take issue with this comment. Who is Robert and when did he say it was weak?

No way would NV be allowed to buy AMD without selling ATI . Thats just natural . It happens all the time . Intel would quickly move to buy NV befor NV could buy AMD. After all NV is a public company. Intel would never allow NV to buy AMD not ever.

AMD and ATI tech can no longer be separated, that has become very obvious. There will be no such thing as only buying AMD or ATI.

Yes they can . It happens all the time . Certain entities of a company have to be sold off befor final approval

ATI is not a separate entity anymore. It would be like if Intel was being sold, and the condition of the sale stated that Intel's graphics tech would not be part of the deal.

Good luck with that.

Wow. Either he is moving on to bigger and better things, or the Bulldozer under his watch is a giant turkey.

Yes it does sound like the board basically forced him out. I swear if BD is junk, we as consumers are in big trouble.

We NEED AMD to be competitive, otherwise, back to the $500 under-par CPU's.

You have to admit, AMD made a laughing stock of Intel with the Athlon64 and X2 series. And Intel came back with a vengeance. Yesterday was more proof, if Conroe and the chips since weren't enough !

It's a separate division. In fact AMD actually sold off a few pieces of ATI after they bought them. Namely their mobile and HDTV divisions I believe. So in theory you could buy AMD and then sell off their "graphics" division. But still keep say the old ATI "chipset" division.

If BD is really a flop, we might not even see Ivy Bridge in Q4 2011. Intel can easily postpone it until Q1/Q2 2012 and still be on top of the hill.

Intel has no reason to delay their server platform. This is probably the most important release.

That article did kinda read like Dirk had been fired, to me anyway. I guess I'm no major corporate CEO either so WTF do I know. What I'm interested in is why this happened and what it means for BD and llano. I did find it VERY odd that no one even talked about BD at all during CES, let alone a backroom ES running for VIPs. Something is very wrong me thinks.

But they did demo the Bulldozer live during financial analyst day a few months ago...
