It's nicknamed Mangy Corpse around F1 fans because of their dislike of the circuit. lol I personally think it's slightly better than any circuit designed by Hermann Tilke nowadays, which always look like a sea of tarmac.

I believe it was Henri Richard that was responsible for naming architectures after grand prix circuits (Barcelona, Sau Paolo, Istanbul. etc). He resigned 2 years ago but AMDs contract with Ferrari's F1 team doesn't end until the end of this year.

Barcelona was named after the most boring circuit on the F1 calendar (and coming up this weekend, incidentally)? How lame.

Why didn't they name them after good and/or interesting tracks? Also, words that are cooler? Like Sepang, Monaco, Monza, Suzuka, Spa? What a bunch of retards.

It may be a tad unfair to paint the entire group of them with the same broad brush...were there a couple of mentally-deficient folks operating at the decision making executive level?

Sure, but it started with Sanders himself not exactly being the rocket scientist he thought he was, and rolled downhill from there with his hand-selecting his successor Hector Ruiz.

Ruiz then filled the org chart with some apparently commensurately less capable individuals (history would suggest, I am merely speculating) who proceeded to do some interesting things with the marketing budget, project naming, and so on.

The purge has been a long battle since 2007, with Dirk in charge it is still going on but won't be done for a while I suspect, Ruiz really packed a lot of incompetence into his reporting orgs. Emperors like to surround themselves with people who can comment on his finely woven gold threaded clothes, and Ruiz was no different than Sanders in this regard. (again, speculation on my part based on what we know of their actions/decisions in the public records...could be a gem of an untold autobiography story hidden in there somewhere for all I know)

At any rate, its not like Intel picks project codenames that are any sexier or meaningful to the commoner...Nehalem? Westmere? Snoozefest?

Idontcare--I'm just talking about the naming conventions. Not that it matters much in the end but I'd rather have a Sepang or a Monza in my computer. Though I must admit, I do like the Barcelona name, just not the fact that it has racing connotations.

What's up, FlippedGazelle?!

AMD Suzuka... sounds cool.

I think they'll be racing in Suzuka this year instead of Fuji, won't they?

I miss Suzuka a lot. Badass circuit!

Yep. 130R FTW!

I know this isn't supposed to be a "Formula Uhn" thread but here's the sched: http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/schedule?seriesId=6

It sounds a little ponderous but how about some new crazy technology called "Nurburgring?" The old, big one, too! Not the new shit. LOL

How you doin'?

Haven't seen you around here for a while...

Funny about CPU names... I remember how so many AMD fanbois were disappointed with "Athlon 64", because "Hammer" sounded so much better.

I love the Suzuka circuit way more than the Fuji circuit too. I remember Raikonnen started from the back at Suzuka in 2005(?) and went on to win the race.

I sorta like the naming scheme for the AMD CPUs (mostly cause I'm an F1 fan). I mean seriously Lynfield, Nehalem, Dunnington, Allendale?? What's that all about? Istanbul, Magny Cours, etc. sound way better IMO. Now if only they had the performance to match.

PS. Another Brawn 1-2 at Barcelona.

What a silly marketing idea that was. Did they really think unemployed nascar fans would buy computers?

edit: do a google image search for "nascar fans" to see what I mean.

Wow Shawn you just exposed yourself as being way more ignorant than the AMD execs. Do yourself a favor and look up the difference between F1 (aka Formula One) and NASCAR.

Coming up next: The VIA Talladega chipset.

You didn't know AMD was sponsoring both F1 and nascar?
http://www.nascar.com/2007/new...aves.nascar/index.html

It was part of their "let's bankrupt this company" strategy.

"AMD is trying to get itself out of this several million heavy deal."

No shit, F1 is turning into bush league. I remember reading a few years back that AMD was supplying the Ferrari F1 team some sort of super computer. Perhaps AMD is scared that the FIA, who is limiting spending, speed, power, and just about everything else, will start limiting clock speed of computer CPUs used by F1 teams as well, so why not just pull out of this joke of a sport called F1?

I actually have to agree. AMD has not used this advertising to their advantage at all. I've only seen one sort of ferrari branded AMD notebook, and that was with Acer. Although F1 is not a joke. It's really not that funny.

It's what it's turning out to be, sadly.

Yeah after the recent stuff about not only Ferrari, but Toyota, and now Red Bull + Toro Rosso threatening to pull out, it's just B.S. Pinnacle of motorsport, my ass!

I mean, the field of 20 cars is already too low, imagine a whole season of 2005 US GPs!
