Considering the tech was developed and sold by third party I imagine NVIDIA could just purchase the tech as well if they wanted to. http://vaproinc.com/index.htm Notice they already make an LGA 1366 cooler, so I doubt there is any exclusivity to AMD.

Cool to see new ideas being looked into for video card cooling though.

Yea they took a lot of heat for the HD 6xxx series so it's definitely something they are/should be considering.

cheaper + more reliable cooling solution @ same or better cooling as older tech.

Whats not to love? if theres a cheaper/better way to do something, even like cooling for a GPU, ofc it should be done.

makes it easier to make profits, or allows for cheaper cards overall = everyone wins.

Maybe I am missing something, but what happens if the heatsink are placed upside down, or at vertical?

Did you click the link and look at the pictures? their in english, and 1 of them explains the question you asked.

face down is best option for cards up to about 200watts used.
after 200watts, vertical solutions beat the face down ones.

I believe most people with "standard" cabinets, have their GPU coolers face down.



The short version:

Orientation doesnt matter much with this tech.
Its cheaper + more reliable than vapor chambers.
Its "thiner" (takes up less space) (2mm).
hopefully better at cooling than "vapor chambers" tech.

Vertical positions show slight degradation at low power range. However, they perform better at higher power level.
It seems that you understand why it works to way it did when it is vertical or upside down. Can you explain how does it work?

I dont, I just looked at the graph, in that picture.

It shows "R pr C/w" and "(thermal) Watts",
You can see (in the picture) the red line for "face down" is a lower value (a good thing), than the virtical samples up until the 200watts mark.

So for most cards, the most suitable orientation will be "face down", however even if used differntly it shouldnt effect cooling performance to much.


ANY advancements in cooling solutions for GPUs is welcome,
esp if their cheaper + better at the job than older tech used.

This new liquid chamber > vapor chambers currently used, in every way.
Is basically what I get from that page link OP had, and its gonna be used with the new AMD cards.

It sounds like it’ll be even better than the vapour chambers which is good because the cooler on the GTX580 is already great.

Who reckons top end GPUs are going to be 250W+ range again?

Huge dies from both companies, duking it out for the crown. Gonna be awesome.
