Subject Says it all.
I'm going for Palomino just because
Intel in the last year has made to many
mistakes.....

What do you all think?

I'm going dual proc instead of a single high Mhtz proc. I think SMP is the future of computing, not faster processors.

The only reason I would even consider intel is because they make OK chipsets (ya 810 and 820 suck i know, but look at the BX), and AMD gets stuck with VIA chipsets which have awful performance. If only I could get an AMD cpu on an intel chipset or a good chipset for the AMDs (maybe Nvidias Crush chipset will finally be the one?).

Oh I should note that Im not exactly an intel fan by any measure. I recommond AMDs to everyone I know who is building a computer since they are so sweet. I just hate that the AMDs get shackled to a second rate chipset.

Nothing for awhile. I'm running a PIII 700 @ 933 on a CUSL2 815E chipset mobo. I'm going to wait for something that is significantly better. I agree on the chipset comments. Its a shame AMD has great procesors, but the mobo issues never seem to go away. Yes, maybe that Nvidia chipset will do it for them.

Paliminio or Morgan (new Duron)

Definately not P4, at least not until they are past Socket423 and have a DDR platform availabe.

Besides I have a 450Watt ATX power supply, and a nice ATX case.
I'd have to ditch both of those in favour of ATX12V PSU and ATX 2.03 case, and as if the P4 itself isn't expensive enough...you need a new PSU/case and my next system will have minium 256MB of RAM, 128 just isn't enough for Win2k + gaming.
256MB of Rambus is just to pricy right now. I can get 128MB PC133 CAS2 Infineon shipped for $130 canadian....since DDR is supposedly only 3-5% more hopefully it's price will drop soon...hopes.
I'll probably just get a K7TPro2A and a stick or two of that RAM (384MB if I got two sticks) and get a Palimino.

oldfart... not necciserally. Rambus proves itself quite useful w/ the p4... how else do you think that q3a is able to perform as well as it does on a p4 (rambus + qdr bus). One good thing that rambus is great at is memory throughput, it kicks DDRSDRAM's ass in that department. Its major flaw is latency however, and that is where DDR excels. Its all a matter of perspecitve and what types of applications you use. Myself, I would never touch rambus, but i know there are some viable uses for it, and who knows, in the future... they may be able to reduce the latency and kill off DDR. I dont really like rambus, these are just my thoughts on the technology.

If Intel ever decides that they can no longer charge rediculous prices for their cpus, an makes something that is actually worth purchasing then I may buy one, but for now my loyalty is with AMD who brought me affordable power.

I think Nvidia's Crush Chipset will be pretty sweet since they use LDT,
but a nice thing about the Palomino and Morgan they are going to be improvments
over the T-Bird and the Spitfire. AMD's is playing it smart and not overdoing themselves.

Intel what the hell happened to them they need to get there company in order,
they *(to hardware enthusist)* look moranic. And the general public think that Intel is
the greatest thing out there. But the publics preception is changing that is why the P4
release.

I use a Athlon and most of my Chips have been AMD. But I still like intel. But there
mistakes have cost them over the last year. And there mistakes are simple, pushing
a new ram standard when it wasn't called for RAMBUS(Yuck!) and rushing products
i820+MTH , and the 1.13Ghz P-III has hurt intel. Now the P4 in a 423 Pin Socket that will
be changed later next year. I can afford to change boards every 3 months. Intel needs to use some comon sense like it did before to be on top again....

That's my thoughts on it all...

everyone saying that Crush will be a great chipset base this on what... maybe its the 0 experience that Nvidia has w/ chipsets, or maybe its the idea that this is the first implementation of LDT... you know how those first time'rs go... Anyway, i hope it is a good chipset but I think VIA has more knowledge of chipset design than nvidia. Anyway, i hope i am wrong about this though as I do agree w/ most that AMD needs a rock of a chipset... i do think that their 760 will rock in the longrun though. I am also waiting to see what shapes out of Mamba... drool...

Well I don`t upgrade that often(I like to get my moneys worth out of my hardware) anyway 18 months down the road I will probably go with AMD ,wait & see what`s out by then.

I don't upgrade often either. Had a P100 before my new PC..

I'd probably go with AMD again though.

AMD for sure, unless intel comes out with a DDR 2.5 GHZ p4 system for the price of a DDR 1.2+ DDR system tomorrow. I'm upgrading soon and I'm not going to bother considering Intel. I need the money I save for a geforce card after all.
