AMD's recommended mobo's- No Abit?

January's Anandtech VIA KT266A mobo roundup gives Abit's KR7-RAID the AnandTech Editors Choice Gold Award. Why is this or any other Abit board not listed as a recommended mobo by AMD on their recommended motherboards site.

Basically a "non-issue". The AMD recommended list is both incomplete and a low priority for them. This has been mentioned before. It is not uncommon for good quality hardware to be "missing" from the various lists that AMD publishes and for "questionable" hardware to be prominantly listed. Many time though it is simply a matter of a company submitting their product for testing to AMD. If they don't, it won't make the list. Don't worry about this at all.

the worst part is it is very common to find bad hardware on that list, many with known problems that aren't fixed.

All what AMD said when using an fan intake in the front of the case is that it re-circulates the heat. To decrease the chances of re-circulating the hot air is to direct the flow up into the case.

ABIT change the AMD guideline to many when they build the mobo
I think AMD has a score system to see the mobo that very close
with AMD reference mobo. If it's too far than AMD will not recomend it
while also ABIT doesn't need that because it already has its own market, OVERCLOCKER.

page 30 from the pdf you linked. That clearly says to use an auxiliary exhaust along with the PSU. i don't see where they recommend not using front fans. They only state that it isn't essential which in normal situations it isn't and that in some extreme situations they found it to be detrimental. I have seen several cases that because of a poorly designed front case fan mounting method were definately recirculating more internal warm air than outside cool air. You obviously did not read that section very carefully. Reading with comprehension is a valuable skill you should try it sometime.

I wrote my post based on memory from having read that document over a year ago, and looking at the dates on the top of the document's pages it appears to have been revised. I was a little off on the exhaust, but they do still spend a lot of time talking about venting through the PSU, and they do still warn that in some situations, a front fan is detrimental. Previously when I had read these guidelines, they went into more detail about front venting drawing in air and how fans can disrupt that airflow.

My guess is that as their CPUs have pumped out more heat, they have had to revise their recommendations to allow for the rear fan and relax the warnings against a front fan. This was a light-hearted thread about how AMD recommendations don't always jibe with real-world practice, but it's nice that you wear your panties a bit tight.

Lighten up! You made innacurate statements backed up by a document that contradicted your assertions. Now you are implying that they changed the document since you last read it. Well i read that document some time ago as well and the AmD spec for chassis cooling has always called for an auxiliary exhaust fan drawing from the cpu area. If you look elsewhere in that document there is a diagram that illustrates this. That diagram also clearly represents the cpu as a slot A package. Been a while since there were slot A cpus available. I would say this would definately date it to that time frame nearly 2 years ago. You need to relax we all make mistakes sometimes.
