Apoppin again makes assertions with nothing substantial, another thread of conjecture. With emphasis on thread, apparently even a random thread created on a forum with no substance is worthy of threads made on another forum. Perhaps I should create a thread about what I thought I might have for lunch today.

There is nothing of substance in that opinion thread that points to what he is suggesting. If you want an example of stealth marketing, not viral mind you, but stealth. Meaning participating in a forum community to put across a message with the intent to make one company look better than another in a coordinated manner - this would fit the bill -

Two threads made on two different forums, both by nvidia focus group members within minutes of each other, delivering the same message:

Thread #1 here on Anandtech by one nvidia focus group member:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2121441&highlight=

Post date & time : 11-19-2010, 07:14 PM EST

Thread #2 on Guru3d by another nvidia focus group member:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=332883

Post date & time 11-19-2010, 7:24PM EST

That's stealth marketing?

Are you blind, so that you can't see what it reads on the bottom?

Member of Nvidia Focus Group
NVIDIA Focus Group Members receive free software and/or hardware from NVIDIA from time to time
to facilitate the evaluation of NVIDIA products. However, the opinions expressed are solely those of the Members.

Aren't you glad that that default IQ was bettered by reverting in 10.10?

Shouldn't you be thankfull that 7000 series AF will look at lest somewhat decent?

I see the video foums haven't changed much since the Rollo days. No wonder I never come in here.

Is the OP, a super moderator, really a member of Nvidia's focus group?

If so, I think it would have been appropriate for anyone else to start this thread, but sheesh, with a supermod posting it it's almost as if Anand himself were stirring up 5 year old nonsense about AMD.

Edit: I'm not attacking the messenger, don't even know who OP is, and don't have strong feelings either way on the message itself, just questioning the logic in a mod who is an nvidia focus group member starting such a thread as it will undoubtedly be used to back "Anand is anti-AMD/pro-Nvidia" ideas at some point down the road.

Mod Callouts are not acceptable. Doesn't matter which subforum you play in.

AnandTech Forum Guidelines
13) Baiting moderators will not be tolerated nor will Mod Call Outs. Any action that reasonably can be considered baiting a moderator, or multiple consecutive actions that heavily push the boundaries of any of these guidelines will result in an instant short term vacation. Repeated violation of this rule may result in a permaban.

I'm pretty sure he actively denied being a member until he couldn't any longer as the evidence made it all too obvious. That sure caused quite the commotion on all of the forums he was a member of back in the day. The monkey cages have never been so rattled.

Merely mentioning this subject will, at best, earn you a threat from one of the other mods. Worst case, they will give you an infraction for daring to see any impropriety in this. Good luck.

Others mentioned it, I was just asking if it were true. No worries though, I never come in these parts, so mods, please feel free to remove the Video section from my account if I've offended anyone.

Wow, I was just passing buy when I saw this topic... priceless, indeed, priceless.
Well, there's a reason why it's a largely dead forum now... good luck, people.

Nice how you omitted the ending of my post that basically blows up your comment above. And it was a perfect example of directed marketing in tech forums to make one company look better than another. Affiliations admitted or not, just a fine example of a couple posters on different forums with a shared agenda...

Birds of a feather and all that.

I’d love to see the list of names, along with an explanation about how IP addresses were obtained from ATF forums.

I understood it as there being a discussion about this in the moderator issues forum. My login there shows only my one complaint from way back.

From Idontcares reply to my question about his stand in all this, and his fair warning post, i assume there was at one point a request from Keysplayr to post this whole topic, and as we clearly see, he was allowed to do so.

I belive the point you bring up needs to be clearified, and not just forgotten, we are talking about matters that are important for all aspects of being on the internet. I do not want ABt or apoppin to know my home adress...

I'm still waiting for this article to manifest. A collection of stories on the internet and linking to his own website forum, a forum mind you he can edit and does so without disclosure nor any flag to indicate he has editted a post, isn't a very reliable source.

2006 he got involved with AMD viral Marketers.
2011 he didn't get a review sample for HD 7970
2012 he starts a campaign to expose AMD's viral marketers.

These are all facts and the coincidences are just too much to ignore. Post the article already, with all the things you claimed you had - let that stand and exonerate you or just let it go. I've still to find how he exposed AEG, again I only find the Consumerist as the whistle blowers. Can anyone link me to where he actually exposed AEG?

I don't think it was him who exposed AEG. I don't remember who it was but I' m pretty sure it wasn't apoppin.

Nothing I've read on any of the manufacturers tactics (both of them) will affect my hardware choices in the least. But I love the entertainment. The reactions of those who may feel or think their hardware ownership (or self-hood) is somehow compromised by how things like this unfold is priceless.

This is how I feel too. I've always looked at any company as a business designed to make money off me. My goal is to get the most from them for the least amount possible, it's a war!!!

This is actually the first time I've seen people get so worked up over gpus, mostly what I hear is how Intel is this terrible company, and because I bought an i5-2500k I now support corporate terrorism.

Pay closer attention :sneaky: It's happened many times before.

This post made me laugh (from ABT forums)
apoppin said:
Once the genie is out of the bottle, you can't put it back in. However, all we have asked for is transparency.
Is this not the same person that edits posts, and PHPBB is set in such a way where there is no edit indicator? He then goes on to say:
It appears to me that PR will probably gather its allies together in an attempt to discredit ABT and somehow blame Nvidia next if they care to escalate it and if they follow their usual historical MO that we have uncovered.
Seriously? There's not enough tin foil hats out there to survive that thread. D: BTW, I've saved all the ABT forum pages locally, so it will be easy to go back and see what gets changed or deleted. Transparency is important. ()

At this point Keysplayr should show some honor and resign.
This thread as a response to the Chiphell investigation is reprehensible and oh so predictable.

If you have a problem with Keys you need to take it to Mod Discussions and not here.

Whether you like him or not its not fair or correct to post about it here.

And I don't see how that article has anything to do with Keys anyway.

The article doesnt seem to have anything to do with Keysplayr, but lets not be naive or blind. This is the second time Keysplayr has posted this exact topic. And as ive already mentioned just above, this time there was a desicion to let him post the topic by the forum staff, as indicated by Idontcares fair warning post.

It follows that Keysplayr has some interest in the topic as he is the OP of both.

Well then you need to PM keys or post in Mod discussions.

Like you said, he got permission to post the subject so hes not really done anything wrong.

Personally I'd have preferred that he'd either a) not posted it or b) if he posted it then either posted his opinion of it in the OP or stuck around to discuss it.

To me, when a thread needs to include a fair warning/disclaimer in bold letters, right off the bat the optics are not great.
