Today on Bloomberg: "The CEO of the Sunnyvale, California-based company said in an interview today that AMD still has to get through 18 months of old technology before the new chips are available."

Ouch. My bet is that he was not only talking about CPUs.
Why? Fiji comes in 2015 with HBM.

they already lost the race to first, does it really matter now?

It absolutely does, I’ve never purchased the highest card and will never now that they’re pricing them ridiculously to high. This 285 is exactly in my price range when it comes to graphics cards and I’m sure many people purchase around this price range too. It’s fun to look at the pretty graphs when the 750ti gets benched against the R9 290x but for me it’s nothing but something to read and look at. In this price range if I were to purchase a card today the 285 would be a card I would purchase because it fits what I need at the price I prefer.
Simple!!

oh I am not referring to AMD but that anandtech haven't published their article on it, and unlike anands mantra they haven't weren't first. So does it matter when they publish the article now?

My bad sorry I should have read farther back before posting. Most threads concerning anything AMD have Intel or Nvidia fanboys always posting how AMD sucks and everyone should buy the other. It just gets old after a while and I just assumed, again sorry.

Is a misinterpretation of yours. The 18 months of old tech is an error of the journalist because between this 18 months carrizo will still come. And the article only says about the K12 that is to come.

I think Tonga is either a chip to fill in a determined timeframe untill the 20nm GPUs come or Tonga is a halfstep architecture and is going to be improved in the next GCN step. Remember AMD come first to the market with the 7900 series and Nvidia had to cancel the very first Fermi chip and delay 6 months the launch of the first Fermi chips.

I read the Bloomberg article to see if it was restricted to CPUs only but couldn't find anything.
Anyway, better for AMD if you're right.

So tonga use LZ7 compression like being used on Xbox One Custom SOC
interesting

Plus Tonga using High Quality Scaler, which also present on ......

LZ7 compression is practically lossless and not lossy compression

Plus interestingly S|A said Tonga as PI

@seronx remember when you said wait the 128 ALU per CU
to Pirate Island LOL

Future CU structure, @ Micro 46, when AMD also talked Stacked HBM
===========================================
Register file will be 1 MB per CU vs 512KB on sea island

Change LDS to LSM (Local Scratchpad Memory)

Mike Mantor PDF Future GCN
====================

Nvidia version
===========
https://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/skeckler/pubs/cgo13.pdf

Basically Scalar(Improved one) for each lane
rather than like today AMD CU, 1 Scalar for All

I'm please to see advancement with the compression technology. Usually we have to wait for a brand new generation to get those improvements.

It's funny how addicted someone can become to a site. I have seen numerous reviews about 285 and I am still waiting for Anandtech's review like the card haven't yet released.

I was really looking forward to this review, but all of a sudden the deadline is being missed left and right - the deadlines set and reset AFTER Anand retired.

Ryan was their GPU guy. Now that he's EIC, I'm sure he has more important concerns than jumping at every GPU release. I assume he'll be hiring someone to replace him.

Many interesting stuff on the front page yesterday. When you see the new Xeons become second news in a matter of hours to Lumia there are two things that comes to mind.

First, mobiles are considered more important for Anandtech.

Second, 285 is last weeks news. So, it is not important anymore. 285 review will see the front page maybe when there will be an opening. When there will be no news/articles waiting to be posted, when there will be no mobile news for the first page.
With major Apple news today we can forget 285 for one more day, maybe two.

The newest article comes top. The Xeon article was not as new as the Lumia article. Also, the Lumia article was 9 pages, Xeon article was 22- and finishes with "Conclusions so Far...", implying that there is more to come. Don't be ridiculous.
