it shows honor and respect to those who are going to die. this was a retailation to the U.S. abusing Iraq prisoners.
not knowing much about their culture I don't know if this is correct or not, however I somehow doubt it as the American was not of their faith and ultimately meant nothing to them....personally I feel the masks were a cowardly attempt of CYA incase they did get captured, nothing more nothing less...
with regards to the family's concerns with the US, word has it that the US told this guy to get out a while ago and that it wasn't safe...he instead decided to stay and unfortunately this has happened.
I am really sickened by those who try to justify this act, or at least rationalize it with the prisioner abuse scandal...as others have said there is a world of difference between humiliation and outwright execution...humiliating the entire nation to me does not equal one barbaic act such as this, and what makes it even worse is that they are not at all selective with whom they decide to kill, this was just a civilian contractor...had it been a soldier or someone with influence it might make more sense....but in the grand scope of things they killed someone who had nothing to do with anything.
There are some who think that this was staged, to which I say BS...there are some who say that this will hurt the current admin, I think it could go either way, unfortunately having studied political science in college (my major) with a focus on media and politics, I fear that this incident will get downplayed unless there is a huge public outcry, either that or it will be spun negatively on the current admin by most of the highly liberal mainstream TV and print media....already we have seen limited airplay and more topics surrounding the prision situation....hopefully people will make this a major issue and it will get the time it deserves...
There are also some who feel that Al Queda had no connection to Iraq before the war, word has it that this video was their handiwork, personally I don't buy this, if they are there now they were there before, why would they bother jumping in and only solidifying the notion that they had ties to Iraq...unless they really don't have a clue. However I think their leaders, who were smart enough to stay alive this long, would be smart enough to understand the media and how things will be viewed by the public even if it is worlds apart.
sad day for sure.
