I'd like to compare top speeds of Euro cars with top speeds of those hillbilly American cars.

Euro cars would reign supreme every time. American cars just aren't built solid enough to sustain extreme speeds, that's why the rednecks who own them always put acceleration over topspeed. Who cares about acceleration.

I don't mind American CARS but for SPORTS CARS I only prefer European. No American, No Japanese, nothing. Maybe it's because that's what I grew up around. European sports cars are just about the sexiest performers on the road.

Even so, I don't give a lick about top speeds simply because there is so little opportunity to go that fast; whereas acceleration can be enjoyed frequently.

Ok so they show drag racing cars, but where are the import rally cars or track cars? You can take an import car and ready it for some d@mn good drag racing, but you can't take a big fat lumbering American car and turn it into a rally car.
Where are the imported Ferrari's, Porches, Lambos, etc?
Why show Amercan trucks when you don't have imported super cars?
That was a pretty bad comparison... and quite a stupid video. All they did was take the gayest looking imports with cardboard and compared it against classic American muscle.

Most everyone. Since you really can't run top speed much at all, it's really irrelevant.

On the other hand, you can most certainly race someone from a stoplight up to the speed limit or so quite often.

And you are foolish if you think the American cars couldn't hang in top speed, and therefore were built for acceleration.
Change the gearing, and a car that accelerates great will then have great top speed.

Top speed is great for an authobahn, in realioty where in America are you going to use it. Acelaeration from stop light to stop light is what American roads are made for.

Remember these hillbilly cars like Vipers, 'Vettes, and GT40's rival Ferraris and Porsches.

Same, top speed is so meaningless if you are driving anywhere with speed limits.

corners > straights, though both are fun. top speed is useless on corners

In reality, where are you going to use acceleration? From one stop sign to the next? You're still breaking the law if you're burning rubber on a street or speeding, what's the difference?

American cars simply CANNOT hang in terms of top speed. I don't think an American car has ever been made that could do 200mph stock right off the lot, let alone the 220mph+ (a few 240+) some Euro cars are doing.

McLaren F1, 240.18 mph....

I do believe this is American and performs as such off the showroom floor.

Since you never drive at top speed, it means nothing. The only reason to buy a car that will go a 150mph is to try and impress people who don't care how fast your car will go.

How many Euro cars? Top of the line Ferrari? Lambo?
Big deal...you're taking the absolute, state of the art, mega-dollar supercars and comparing them to Camaros and Mustangs?
Yeah, that's a valid comparison. Like you'll ever see one of those running flat out, even on the Autobahn. Maybe once in a blue moon you might.

American makers could EASILY make a car that went 200+....but why? You can't drive that fast here. There's no point, except to unknowledgeable, Car and Driver-reading people like you, who like to sit on the toilet and play with your chubby while reading about the latest Ferrari Enzo....which you will never even see, much less own.

Those American cars were souped up rods and dragsters - they should be compared to a 1000hp R32 GTR or something, not that rubbish in the vid.

Yes, the stop signs in my town are about 1/4 mile apart so everything works out.

I do believe you're stupid. The car itself is British and the engine is a BMW (German).

Give me my good old ameriam muscle over an import any day. I can work on it myself and parts are super cheap. On my 88 Firebird a engine will be less then $500 and take about 1 hour to swap. Its fast off the line and takes corners still with the best of the imports. She will do over 120 MPH, which, in America is enough that if I get pulled over to have my license taken away for a few years and my car impounded. Top speed is rather useless here in America. Off the line and cornering is where it is at and there are a lot of American cars that can do this just fine enough. So for me Hillbilly American Muscle easy to fix, parts are a dime a dozen, and in most cases repairs are done faster on an American Car then an Import. Thats fine by me. Keep buying them other cars and keeping my American cars on the cheap so I can continue to afford them

LOL Yeah. Ever sat in a typical muscle car? The hillbillies that own them absolutely LOVE to put Armor-All on the seats. The interior of a muscle car feels like you're in a slip and slide or shooting out of the womb. Disgusting.
