I recently got the bank one free cash rewards card. The thing that attracted me was that it earns 1 point per dollar spend. and you get to redeem a $25 check or GC for every 2500 points. That is 1% back.

I know BVG has an annual limit of $1000. Is that calendar year or annual card year? I might have to get a second BVG card cause I am about to max out.

The best CC for cash back, in my opinion, is the Shell Platinum Visa. You get 1% cash back on all purchases towards Shell gas purchases, and 5% back on Shell gas. I have the AE cash rebate card, and the main draw of this card is the customer service that AE offers. In particular, I like the automatic warranty extension that the card offers on items you purchase (only when purchased on the card, of course). Say you buy a CD burner that has a 1-year warranty. Instead of paying $10-15 to buy an extended protection plan (which you shouldn't really be buying anyway--you almost always lose money with those things), your warranty is automatically extended a year for no extra charge...

I used to really like my Shell card as well, but starting in mid January, they're terminating the gas rebates and replacing it with something "yet to be determined." Supposedly Shell and Chase are terminating their relationship. This is really a big shame, since this used to be my favorite card, and I really enjoyed getting the rebate back every month instead of at the end of the year.

get an edvance card from fleet and every 2500 $ you spend you get a 50$ savings bond, I that is a better deal than these limited cash back things.

In Northern California the Golden 1 Credit Union has a straight 1% back VISA card, no limits, no tiers, no fees. But at Costco, which only takes AmEx, gotta use the Amex Cash rewards.

I have a MBNA Platinum Business Card ... for every $1 ... I get a point ... if I reach 25000 points ... I get a free domestic airline ticket.

I can redeem points before that if I wish for other 'goodies' ... but for every 6000 points I get $50 ... which is not much.

Apply ... here

I probably charge around $1000 a month to my Discover card. One of the nice things about the Discover card is that once you accumlate at least $20 in rewards you can use it right away and not wait for your 1 year mark. Also, Discover has a program where they will double your cash back award if you use it for certain things. For example, you spend $20 of your cash back bonus to get a $40 gift certificate for Staples. Last year I got 3 certificates for Staples, 1 for Red Lobster, and 1 for Sharper Image. If you double the value of my cash back bonus, it comes to a value of about $200. I've already redeemed my bonus for another $40 gift certificate for Red Lobster, the hubby and I will be eating steak and lobster for Valentine's day.

If you are trying to pick a credit card for the rewards CreditCardGoodies is a good site to check out.

For cash rebate cards it has a graph to help you pick out a card. Try to estimate how much you'll put on the card in a year and use the graph to pick the card that give the most back.

Last time I used this site was over a year ago. I'm not sure how well it is kept up to date, but it still appears to still be there.

I've been using the Amex cash-back for a couple of years now and ususally get a couple of hundred back per year.
DO NOT carry a balance to get the last 1/2%. It is just not worth it.

There is a one-time $15.00 fee to become an REI member. But with membership, you get 10% back on all your REI purchases.

Ok, so far, i've heard that REI Visa is great. I don't mind the $15.00 one time fee, but is this company really that great? I have Sears Mastercard and i'm using their Rewards Program. So far, i don't even know if it is that great. SEems alright to me. But REI Sounds pretty great to me.

Thoughts?

I'm with you. I quit using Discover for the past year and started using Amex 2% back. You have to wait a year to get it,and that sux. My wife got $160 in Red Lobster GC for $80. I am there! As soon as I get my Rewards from Amex, it's adios! No more Amex. Just my dos centavos.

I was thinking of getting the Blue card and called to talk to AMEX about it. They told me there is a new prog out that I can just add to my current Optima Platinum that gives me 5% back on all gas purchases and 1% on everything else. Could be better but $0.08 off a gallon of gas (maybe more) is not all that bad. That earns me about $100 a year just on gas alone!

how much is the annual fee on the AMEX Gold Rewards card?

Which AMEX card has the lowest annual fee and gives you BVG?

My Chase Shell Visa was converted to Chase Freedom Card. They give a straight 1% on all purchases and 3% for Gas purchases. It is credited to your account. There is no rebate check and no waiting for the rebate. You just get it credited to your account. Not a bad deal for a rebate card.

I've had AmEx Cash Rebate card for about 5 months now and my average cashback percentage was ~ 0.7%, which is not that great, but better than 0.00% on other cards

AMEX Platinum Reward card has BVG, but $90 annual fee.
The best bet is the Business gold amex card with BVG, and annual fee waive for first year. give it a try. you might get approved..
