American Express Centurion?

Never heard of it until today until someone told me about it. Apparently some guy that owns an Enzo and a Gallardo that lives like 10 minutes from my house has one of these AMEX Centurion cards. Looked it up and there's no limit on the thing, and it has a MINIMUM annual spending requirement of $250K. How would you even get something like this? It's not easy to get obviously...

No... you don't get one. He's offering a concierge request that he gets with his. But it is the same card.

And, I'm sure that you have to be offered one from American Express. So either you're a big name celebrity and they just offer you one... or they see how much you're spending (and paying) with your current card, and they offer it to you.

You can't just go and apply for one.

my uncle claims he was offered one but didnt accept due to the high annual fee, so i guess it might be possible for "regular" people to get one. he is very well off though.

Apparantly the way to get the card is to spend $250k a year on your Amex and hope they give it to you... One way to do this would be to start an online business selling stuff on eBay and buy all of your merchandise with the card.

The annual fee is something like $2500 though.

Hell, when they first started offering this card it was delivered by a security card with a mini computer in a black velvet case that contained two black cards. One for actual charing, the other for showing as a pass. The computer was to see how much you have spent.

sorry typos, one for charging, the other as a "Yeah, I am that special" type of badge. The card could be swiped into the computer to see how much had been charged on it.

I work at a Best Buy and a man purchased a few DVD's using a Centurion card. It was titanium, not plastic. The man that was paying with the card was very white trashy are wore stained clothes; I did not think that he would even qualify for the card so I checked his identification. It matched. It was a personal card, not a business one. I believe that you can call AMEX and request a card if you really want one, depending on your credit situation and spending habits.

You can request it if you're a platinum card holder and you meet the spending requirements.

Honestly, the card is great and can do wonders for you in sticky situations, but it's a double-edge sword.

Everywhere you go, there's simply people who respect your accomplishments and how you got invited for the card (but these people already know you are successful/rich/etc.) or the newbies who don't know you but kiss your ass because they see the card. THAT gets tiring sometimes. Kanye's "Gold Diggers" song is so true in elitist clubs.

On the other side, if you're using this at a grocery store or something, it confuses the hell out of people since they have never seen an AMEX Black card before.

its not "titanium" as said, ive had quite a few at work, it is extremely heavy, and metal, not plastic. feels totally different, and just awesome.
