American Express Financial Advisors?

Anyone do this, know anyone who does, or know anything about it?

I've gotten 2 e-mails about it: One from my resume @ HotJobs, and another from Monster.

I graduated w/ a BS in MIS last month. Seeing how that's not really a related field, I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten emails like this that weren't really related to their major?

It's basically a sales job related to selling stocks, mutual funds and other investments to clients. The majority of you salary will be based on commision and expect to cold call and have qoutas.

I have a financial advisor.
I called her yesterday to ask about withdrawing money from my Roth IRA for a first time home purchase.
I asked what the tax implications were for withdrawing my contribution and also for withdrawing interest.
Her answer?
"Ask your accountant. Have you found financing yet? Our company also offers mortgage services!"

Financial Advisor is a euphemism for SALES.

I had an interview for that position with AMEX after getting my BS degree in General Science in 1999.
Yeah, it's a sales job. The only job prospects I had with that degree were sales jobs, which is why I went back to school and got a CS degree. I'm not the sales type.

Supposedly can be really good money but the guy who interviewed me scared me away with his intensity. He reminded me of one of those motivational speaker types. He talked about how everyone there works at least 60 hours a week and they expect you to be making at least 100k a year by your second year. He claimed to make over 300k per year and said that he basically was giving up his family life to do this for a few years so he could retire by the time he was 40. The one thing that made it sound different from something like car sales is that he stressed how they absolutely will not tolerate any unethical behavior. Who knows how truthful he was being, but he was saying that they look for ethical honest people and there are no second chances, anyone who does anything unethical is immediately fired.

If you are into high stress, long hours, and a chance to make a lot of money, it sounds like it's worth a try.
