And your income tax bracket will go up unless you're so rich that you don't need this deal anyway. If you sell it I don' t know off the top of my head if you'd pay capital gains but its something to be checked on. Still a good price but in the long run its a hefty chunk of change, not just $5k that you'll slap on a credit card.

it's still cheaper than purchasing the car.
Figure

5000 + TTL + Whatever else tax, it should be no more than 10k total.

Actually there is some language in the "Terms and Conditions" that seems to say that Amex will "...help defray the cost of taxes..."

Amex clock is the same as the system clock. When is the actual 12, 4 and 9pm? Who know what time they have. Good luck.

I was using two different machines and clicking madly from about 11:59:55. No luck of course. Funny thing was I noticed that the browsers in both my machines had two different times (about a minute or so apart). The time difference persists even after refreshing both browsers. I presume that they have a web server farm and each server is using it's internal clock. Their clocks are probably not synchronised - so it must be a matter of luck as to who gets the earlier clock. Either way it seems to be a waste of time...

This will vary among people and states but low-to-mid teens is quite likely for some, not counting capital gains. atSri points out some helpful language in the deal but unless somebody finds out exactly what Amex means by it then its probably not useful to count on getting much. Again, I agree that its a great deal and I'll try for it myself but this is a major financial transaction, a major hit on income taxes, etc., not something to jump into lightly.

I did the same, and noticed the same. It is much simpler than than the server farm. Check your system time. The browser time is from the system time. Change the system time, the browser time changes.

The way the timer works (AFAIK) is it starts up from http://www.mylifemycard.com/mod-perl/ettime.pl
Then its loaded into a flash application where mins/secs tick off...flash can loose seconds though and the framerate on the movie isn't "perfect" so if you leave it sitting for a while the time can be off by a few seconds/mins.
When you click the i want it it triggers the http://apps.mylifemycard.com/mod-perl/inventory.pl script whcih tells if there is a item availible or not if there is then u get a resulting url fro that to go to which loads up yet another swf with the entry system. all in all not too complicated but seems like it might get bogged with a lot of users producing a lot of error codes depending on how those perl scripts are written.

Duh, I know that. Check the sync of both of them. My point is, how is their clock set. The one in the browser is set based on your computer.

The one on the site is differnt from system clock.
I checked their time with atomic clock.gov or whatever the timing thing is and it was a tad slower. (10-13sec) about.

Yes, but you have to check inventory at the correct time. The flash clock is set locally, the inventory is not. Better odds on the lottery.

Okay, I was able to get in the Certificate thing. Unfortunately it was for 20% off the best rate at a Sheraton...but for those who want to know, it give you 5 minutes to say you want it, then when you click continue, it gives you 5 more minutes to fill out your name/address and card information to have the certificate mailed to you...the time limit is way more than you need...so good luck with the wish list items, I know I will be trying...

This is BS.

I wasted my time both at noon and at 4 clicking at that stupid thing like mad.
200 units all gone at the very instant the clock turns.

How is this a "reward" for loyal card members? All it does is make me angry that:

a) I wasted my time
b) I got my hopes up
c) they are rewarding other card members unequally for presumably the same level of membership. instead, they should have made it a sweepstakes, at least right off the bat you know you are in a lottery.

I was relatively happy with Amex before, I think I will cancel my account now because of this "reward". Here I come Discover!
