Of course, I missed that so I did my own packet capturing. Amex fixed the flaw. Now the xml files are nowhere to be found (Amex probably changed the item IDs anyway) and a referrer link is implemented (you have to get to the item order form from the mywishlist.com flash page).

So...back to clicking

no, im no genius, but it seems like if i was smart enough to figure all of this out, i would have waited to share the little secret with the world until i had purchased a z4 for $5000. but thats just me.

no kidding, what a joke.

Well, it's luck thing. I was lucky this morning and I got the $50 off $200 purchase coupon for Saks 5th Ave. I guess no one interested in that deal, but at least my wife can use that and save me some cash.

What, nobody's getting all charged up for the $150 glorified disposable razor (ha, ha)? For a suggested $770 retail, that sucker had better come with a supermodel who hates wearing clothes and who wants to provide "happy ending" after shaving me.

Yeah, that's what was going through my mind while reading his post. He should've kept it to himself and let other people have a chance (both people buying and people trying to find a way to hack this deal)

But he did withhold the list of item IDs (probably in hope that nobody will know the ID for the Z4). Anyhow, it's over and he lost his sure chance at a Z4. Using this hack to get a cheap camera for a so so price then sharing it with the world (thus missing his chance at a Z4) sure is stupid. In anycase, I thank him for making use of a sniffer in a hotdeal.

interesting...got one of the williams-sonoma sets... but it wasn't right after the clock changed over from 3:59:59 to 4. I continued clicking for about 30 seconds after, even though it said to try again at 9, and I finally got in. I would assume one of two things happened:

1. someone gave up the item, and it went out for another try
2. the try again at a later time message is setup to display when you try to order something after 12, 4, 9 but before they're ready to take orders.

I guess the moral of the message is to keep trying for a little while longer.

I'm psyched because: "Each brush is manufactured using only the finest badger hair available."

There seems to be some misinformation here.

Regarding the clock, here's how it works (from the source):

How does the My WishList clock work?
When you load "My WishList" the site synchronizes with our master clock. This master clock is synchronized with the U.S. Government time server at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. All products are released based on this master clock.

While we have recently taken steps to make the clock displayed on the site more accurately reflect our master clock, the Internet makes it virtually impossible to keep perfect time. This means that there may be a slight gap (approximately 3 seconds) between the clock displayed on your computer and the clock we are using to release products. American Express's determination on the order of respondents is final.

And regarding the Z4 and actual cost, etc. It was mentioned before but you will pay sales tax on $5K and income tax on $42K-5K BUT American Express will defray the cost of these taxes. Who knows exactly what that means, but Amex will be giving money to offset the cost of taxes. So that 5K for the BMW will probably cost you pretty close to 5K.

Do I have to pay tax?
Yes. You will be responsible for your state's individual tax rates. The sales tax charged, if applicable, will be on the actual price paid (the WishList price) rather than the recommended retail price. All purchases may be subject to personal income tax (federal, state, and local) based on the discount amount off the fair market value of each of the item(s) purchased. Discount amounts of more than $600 per Cardmember across one or multiple purchases are subject to income tax and you will receive a Form 1099-MISC. American Express, where applicable, will provide funds to Cardmembers to help defray income taxes. You will receive a package in the mail with full details on how to receive those funds.

This is just unbelievable. Too bad nobody is actually going to get the BMW. I know I'm going to be clicking like a madman though.

I received my first Wish Certificate today. Here's more information for those interested:

I did NOT get a shipping confirmation e-mail. This is contrary to the first AmEx congratulations e-mail.

AmEx took two days to send it, but they did send it UPS next day. I "won" it on Monday. AmEx shipped it on Wednesday.

My first Wish Certificate is for Best Buy. Like most things Best Buy these days, it was NOT all that I hoped. The coupon is limited to certain categories: TVs, home theater systems, speakers, receivers, DVD players and recorders, major appliances, small appliances, vacuums, microwaves, desktop computers, notebook computers, monitors, projectors, and digital camera accessories. It appears to exclude DVDs and CDs; game systems, games, and accessories; computer sotware, games, and most upgrades and accessories; phones, cell phones, and accessories; and PDAs.

I also have Toy 'R Us and Amazon coupons coming. We'll see if they're better than Best Buy's.

"Due to extremely high volume, My WishList is currently unavailable. Please check back soon."

*Sigh*

Guess I'll just have to keep driving that old rattletrap a while longer...

Sounds like all cardmembers that tried today should get one since they could not handle the volume

I had the page up since yesterday so it took my clicks but looks like I "just missed it" however, after a couple minutes the message now reads that the online capacity is exceeded. Only 2 more Z4's available

Here is what a serious interested party should do for this:

Jack up a UNIX/LINUX box (forget about windows)
Hook up a T1/T3 line
Wrote a self-clicking script in perl(maybe)
Sit and watch to see what happens.

Damn right. I suspect there are a few non cardmembers trying to click too. they should require you to log in. have some complicated stuff to actually give people a chance.

Now I get the message the online store is maxed out.

What is a Wish Certificate and how do you get it? I have gone to the mylifecard website. I'm an Amex Blue card member.

Click at 11:59:59 and it will say "check back later".
Click at 12:00:00 and it will say "checking inventory"

The flash will not give you a chance to check the inventory prior to what is displayed as 12:00:00 on the webpage and we all know that that is set locally. If you doubt this, change your system seconds and watch the page clock advance. One must have a "fast" system clock to even have a chance. If your clock is slow, no chance in hell.

Good luck suckers.
