Yeah, looks like their site died right at 9:00 EST. Finally came back about 9:10. I think AmEx has done a poor job with this promotion, will end up alienating a lot of their customers.Originally posted by: MrCodeDude
It's still checking availability?
I clicked at 8:59:57, 8:59:58, 8:59:59, 9:00:00

Jack up a UNIX/LINUX box (forget about windows)
Hook up a T1/T3 line
Wrote a self-clicking script in perl(maybe)
Sit and watch to see what happens.

They're doing the BMWs one more time before the end of the promotion, but you have a better chance of being offered one for free by a rich guy high on cocaine than you do beating the people who have gone to great lengths to make sure the odds are highly stacked in their favor, completely bastardizing the whole meaning of this promotion.
The LCDs won't be offered again, though - it's clearly stated in the FAQ that only the BMWs are offered more than once (three dates, to be exact), and the #2 chance was last Monday.
Tonight however was the last straw, they started selling the W2600s BEFORE 9pm. Whether this was because someone opened the floodgates from the inside OR outside, remains to be seen.
It's probably safe to say that AMEX is losing more customer appreciation than they're gaining, as the promotion setup is a nightmare. The entire thing should be code-based. You get a code per day, you enter the code in a set time (within 10 minutes from the "opening" time) and see if you're a winner. It might not be popular with "fastest finger" people, but it'd be cleaner.
As soon as people probably heard of this entire operations probably formed with multiple computers all running third-party software to automate the process of making one person have 50+ chances. Hackers using compromised machines to bombard the site making it even more difficult for the common man to win probably isn't too farfetched.
AMEX should have saved their money - both for the items and the advertising, and gone with promotions and incentives that their cardmembers could've actually used...not this bullsh*t.

I totally agree. However, seeing that you can win a Z4 for $5k by just having an Amex card will go a long way towards convincing non-Amex users to switch. I've been using Blue for a while and I love it. It's my favorite card out of about 5. That Point Reward program rocks. Their online billing and online statement system is probably the best out there. Best of all, Blue does not have an annual fee and does have a credit limit of up to 15K. Plus they keep having Amex or Amex Blue exclusive promotions. I got about $700 worth of PS2 hardware and games for around $430 two years ago. Love it!
I think people should calm down and take this promotion for what it is, a simple Xmas-time sweepstake. I've been clicking since the Vespa first became available and have been checking back almost everyday since then but I don't really feel like Amex did a poor job. They have a pretty nice promotion with this Wishlist thing and many people have won one thing or another (well...I have yet to win even a discount certificate) but it's all good.
Relax ppl
