Sure, he didn't channel John Lennon but that's kind of the idea. He changed it completely and still pulled it off in an amazing way. That takes tons of talent.

It wasn't a faithfull rendition to the orignal but that's kind of the idea. If he just stepped up and cloned Lennon it's little more than karaoke.

To each his own, but I understand what you're saying. Some songs are sacred to people and should never be touched by anyone else. imo though, to take a song like that and tackle it as well as he did, and to put his own spin on it in the process, was a risk he pulled off very well. Very few seasoned pros could have done that, let alone some young kid on American Idol.

I'm not opposed to re-interpretive covers (Cowboy Junkies' cover of Run for your Life is fantastic), but I can't stand the way this one was done.

Oh c'mon, they are told over and over to make the songs "their own" and to change them up a bit so they don't sound like they are exactly imitating the original artist. Don't you remember Katharine McPhee singing, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? She changed the melody somewhat, and made it her own version and it was what made everyone realize she was a serious contender.

Lennon would be impressed.

well, it's a popularity contest along with a singing contest. Simon's remarks seem to determine who goes home most of the time. He picked on the one girl for having an old fashioned dress on and singing that sounded arranged by her grandmother, and the other girl's song she sang made me wanna shove earplugs in plus she was wearing a pair of guy shorts.

so yeh.... i thought Amanda should've got the boot. she most likely slipped through on her stand out of the crowd looks.

I felt bad for that young "old fashioned" girl b/c she was shocked that she got the boot and was a good singer. I also thought the girl wearing the pair of shorts was at least interesting. You could tell by her look and attitude that we'd at least get something interesting every week. I could care less about half the people b/c every week you know it's going to be the same stuff. At least people like Carly, Amanda, Alexandrea, and 1 or 2 others try new styles and stuff.

I also loved his version of Imagine. I can't say it was better than Lennon though, just different.

I still don't have a favorite this year, but I hate Carly, Kristy & Michael Johns and just want to see them go. They all had record contracts already, and shouldn't be on the show, IMO.
