I was actually hoping Kris would win, the GF too, who supplanted Bo Bice this year with Adam as her all-time favorite.

Kris needs the win, Adam not at all, and it will help him that much more that he isn't as indebted to the show.

I like Kris, but not near as much as the others. Hope he does well, but the 6 year-old fanbase is a fickle sort--the type of thing that doesn't sustain more than 5 or so years. He'll need this steady income that he wouldn't otherwise have.

Adam is set now.

by the way, the bit with Kara was pretty awesome. Had no idea she really could sing, pretty smoking body too!

we actually missed Seacrest's comment about bikini girl's new tits the first time through, though it was completely obvious to it. I remember her singing better than that when she was still on the show, though? I guess nervous or something. And she had no stage presence whatsoever. letting Kara just roll all over her, haha.

The final performance always has both finalists sing a song specially written for the show. That song is released as a single soon after the season ends.

That being said, that song absolutely sucks! I feel bad for whoever wins because that stupid song is going to get played over and over on Top 40 radio. I thought it was easily the worst thing sung since Top 11 was announced.

It reminded of some crappy Kenny Loggins tune during the closing credits of some ridiculous 80s movie.

I thought Goose's water-logged corpse was gonna rise out of the sea and start boogying.

I just watched the episode - what a lineup of artists! and OMG, QUEEN. WTF, WHY DIDN'T I SEE ANYONE EXCLAIMING ABOUT QUEEN.

The way that Kris's momentum was going and with Danny's voters needing a place to go, I wasn't too shocked by the announcement. Disappointed, yes, but like you've all already said - Adam will do just fine with his recording career. And even if in 5 years he's a nobody, he'll always have Broadway.

I also kept waiting to see what skimpy outfit Megan Joy would appear in next...damn she fine. What's the name of the other blond single mom? She looked better tonight than I think she did all season. She's a tiny little thing.

They are. Clay Aiken found a loophole, and got out of his contract, but no one else has. If you make it to the top whatever, you are under contract, and there is no escape.

I see it as sort of whiplash (probably not the right word) against the judges who had more or less already proclaimed Adam as the winner. I didn't vote (lazy) but was getting pretty sick of the Adam-praise/judges kneeling at his altar.

Agree with you on Gilles, Cheryl Burke was just incredible this year and Gilles did an excellent job elevating himself to her level. When you make competitions popularity contests this is what happens. Look at how long the cowboy lasted...that was only because Chelsea was hotter than hell.

I still don't see a market for Adam...maybe the emo/screamo market? /wrist He is a good singer until he starts screaming/whining.

I think the John Mayer, Jack Johnson crowd has alot more popularity and buying power then boys that wear makeup, cry and don't know which side of the plate to hit from.

I think that is mostly what happened, true there was the Gokey vote and I am sure in the south there were a bunch just voted for Kris because of the gay thing, but I felt it really had to do more with the judges for the last couple of weeks drooling over Adam and just about declaring him the winner, leaving people with a sour taste in their mouth, plus Adam's screeching at first was pretty cool but then wore off and at the end was pretty damn annoying

My wife left the TV on the local Fox channel after Idol and during their commentary about the finale, they showed a couple of pics of Adam "OMFG! KISSING ANOTHER MAN!" They went on to say that they thought that those pics helped sway a lot of voters away from Adam.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Kris is entirely forgettable. Not upset that Adam didn't win. Daugherty didn't even make the top three and is more successful than anyone from that season. Adam is a rock star in the making.

With all the factors, in the end I have to blame Adam.

He had some really amazing and untouchable performances, like smokey's tracks of my tears, mad world, and ring of fire, but couldn't capitalize on them or that successful tempered style. He's got to decide if he wants to sing what and the way he loves to sing, or if he wants to be successful.

Some like to mention opera-rock or Freddie Mercury, who probably defined that style, but even tho Adam has the vocal strength and raw abilities, he needs to work with technique instructors to fix his tone.

Opera with no tone is an oxymoron. If he overcomes his problems, as well as knowing when 'less is more' when singing, he could sing what he wants and be very successful imo.

I also thought Kris would win. Adam is great and I'm more of a fan of his than Kris, but if you think about the millions of people who vote, Kris is going to get more of the middle of the road and the conservative vote. Anyway, both were very good artists.

A few thoughts on the night:
Why did Queen Latifah wear that outfit? She looked gigantic....good duet though

Fergi is the ultimate butterface....FANTASTIC body, very odd face - Decently cool song though. I laugh everytime I see BEP b/c I think of a SNL or MadTV where they offered to have them come to your party....Fergi would come for $25k and they'd though in the "crazy asian dancer guy" for $10.

Why do they get all these old people? Lionel, Rod, Cyndi ??? really??

Adam with Kiss was good but it didn't really allow him to go crazy with his vocals. Kiss songs are very vocally easy, just good songs to sing along with

Overall awesome show though. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
