American Museum of Natural History

I'm going to check out the AMNH pretty soon and I wanted to get some input from those who have been there recently. I guess my questions are:

1. Can you realistically see everything in 1 day?
2. If not what are the MUST see halls?

I'm definitely going to check out the Hayden planetarium and all the space stuff. Not too interested in the current IMax show.

That's what I figured. We are going to get there as soon as they open and stay all day. Going to try and squeeze as much in as possible.

Yes, you can see the whole thing in a day if you just walk thru all the exhibits. If you plan to read all the exhibit plaques and info, you can see about half.
The Hayden Planetarium is also a part of the museum, and is a must see. Try to schedule the planeterium show in the middle of your day, so you can sit for awhile and rest up.

NO, you need at least 2 days.

sure you can, if you run around like a madman. but you wont get anything out of it. Take your time and go thru 3/4 of the museum slowly. My favorite are the dinosaurs and the ancient egypt part. Get a map and plan out a route thru the museum.

I always liked the dinosaurs and the Hall of Minerals. The planetarium or whatever they call it now is pretty cool too.

I'd have to second this. The dinosaurs, minerals, planetarium are all awesome. Check out the room with the blue whale also. That's a cool room.
