Have we just succumb to laziness and not trying to be healthy? For most people all it takes is eating decently and excercising a little bit. There are exceptions to that rule but for most people it will keep you in decent shape at least. And you should beat yourself up if you have a piece of cake and are morbidly obese. Depending on the type of cake, that can be most of your daily fat intake. It's the same thing with pizza; you have a few slices of that and you could be eating up to 99 grams of fat and over 1500 calories. Having that every once and a while is fine if you work out regularly but it's just plain retarded to eat if you're 5'6" and weigh 230 lbs (nearly 100 lbs. more than me).

Most of America needs to get off it's lazy fat arses and go to the gym.

I highly agree

BBW

The concept of the BBW is an oxymoron. Women who describe themselves as BBWs are almost always not beautiful, and they have overly inflated self-esteem.

And single too.

I like a girl with a little meat on her bones - the skeletor images of Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Ritchie don't do it for me. But, 230lbs is almost more than I weigh...

230 is a lard ass for a "lady" at any hight let alone 5'6" - should be about 130 tops 135 with implants.

I for one prefer a nice curvy woman to these anorexic stick figure bimbos with fake breasts and oversized sunglasses.

QFT, nothing like a nice curvy Latina. mmmmm. Can?t stand anorexic skeleton looking Nicole Richie like woman...

Curvy is one thing, obese is a whole new ball game. Hips, and a$$ are great, rolls and cottage cheese are freakish.

And certainly picking the most extreme case of skinny (like Nicole Richie) isn't an accurate example of the "slim" woman most men refer to as being attractive

I tend to agree with the idea that we as a country are trending a little too much towards fat. I'd be fine with the rail-thin idea of beauty being pushed aside by women who don't look like 12 year old boys...but there are too many people who are fat to a very unhealthy degree.

That being said, I'm not too worried that people aren't too worried about weight. Yeah, it's something to work on, but on the list of things Americans should work on improving, weight is hardly something that would crack the top 10 on my list. It makes sense though, we are, at heart, a shallow culture obsessed with the trivial. The people who post here that I had pegged as the worst of the lot are exactly the people who are making a big deal out of this. I find it interesting that we are among the fattest countries in the world, yet we are also among the most obsessed with weight and physical image. Now I'm not saying people shouldn't work on their health and how they look, and I'm not PC enough to say that I find fat women as attractive as the not-fat variety, but still, it seems like maybe there are other things we could worry about first.

The small percentage of overweight women (or men for that matter) who are attractive would be MORE attractive if they dropped a few pounds.

Perhaps, but especially for men, the medical definition of overweight is kind of goofy. Based on current BMI charts, people who are not what I would consider "thin" are almost certainly at or near the overweight catagory. If people are into muscle building sports, especially weight lifting, I'd bet they are technically overweight. Of course this isn't what most of us are talking about when we say "fat", but it's something to keep in mind when we see stats about how many people are overweight.

I like a little meat like Rachel Weisz but 5.6" 230lb is way too much.

At the end of the day it is your own health, you can eat all the junk you want and weight 400lb. After you over 40yrs you're going to pay the price.

i think one of the problems with the issue of fatness, is that people try to say that it represents how a person feels abou themself..whether or not that is true..it is quite sharkish to single out one factor of a persons being and try to say what kind of person they are..just because their weakness represents itself in a visible way doesnt mean that you arent 4x as pathetic

Oh I'm sure am at least 4x as pathetic. But I look good and can still dunk at 34 and my 55 resting heart rate will allow me to live 4x as pathetic 25+ years longer than a obese cow.

barf!

Not only is political correctness contributing to the downfall of the species, but also people are becoming too lazy and stupid to refuse to see the truth in front of their eyes: obesity is ugly, is disgusting and in the end is a killer.

I was reading with interest an editorial in a minority newspaper a few weks ago, lambasting the North American permissive attitude towards obesity, and noticing that from a "strictly-health" point of view, making fun of fat people was efficient in determining some of them to shed the extra kilos...

LOL same here.

I'm nearly 230lbs at 6' but despite the fact that I'm probably ~10-12% also BMI pegs me as obese
