"Open borders" is one of those right-wing rinse and repeat lies they tell so many times people like @Greenman get it implanted in their brains and just regurgitate on demand.

We will not be able to solve the border problem until we can agree on a set of facts.

Dems tried during Trump's term to push comprehensive immigration reform. Remember that clip from a meeting with him and Dem leaders agreeing on that framework. Trump goes back to his people and then reneges.

Also red states are removing age restrictions for work creating an additional incentive. That's how you get 14 year old undocumented working the night shift in slaughter houses.
They lie. The party they are so devoted to, never wants this to be solved. It will remove one of their biggest campaign wedge issues to keep the people distracted from having their pockets fleeced by the billionaire class.

The fact is that the GOP donor class is THE importer of illegal labor. The same people cheering Sound of Freedom are the same ones voting for the party funded by illegal labor. Greenman knows this too, but that won't ever stop his apathetic ignorance.

Southern states send busloads of central and South Americans to nyc overwhelming the system.
Daily news pics focus on feature only African migrants.

Fascinating

Meanwhile, the danger on the streets are mentally ill Americans citizens.

Also if @Greenman doesn’t like the border situation the solution is to stop voting for Republicans.

The Democrats have repeatedly attempted to increase border security but Republicans refuse to do it because in exchange they would have to accept more legal immigration, and they vehemently oppose immigration of all types.

2.76 million undocumented immigrants entered the U.S. in 2022. That's an open border.
Even if we accept that number, which as others have pointed out is probably inflated, there is still 7.88 billion people on this planet. That is not a open border, it is a faucet that drips every few hours.

More importantly, those are APPREHENSIONS. He's saying that the number people CBP apprehended is evidence that the border is open. It's literally the exact opposite.

This is like claiming that the police arresting people is a sign that we don't enforce the law.

You have to admit it's kind of funny that he decided we have an open border because CPB is arresting so many people for attempting to cross it.

Then again there's a pretty good chance he didn't know what his number meant and/or some right wing source he got it from lied to him about it.

One question on this topic: Why have there been no consequences for shit-headed governors from southern states sending busloads of immigrants to NY/CA/D.C./etc. ?

Not all immigrants in NYC are coming in this way, but this is being done intentionally and out of spite. Why is it being glossed over and ignored? It meets the definition of human trafficking, and is the opposite of finding a solution for the issue.

Actually, I just noticed I quoted your post by mistake as my reply was meant for SMOGZINN. I was going to answer your post with an admission of wonderment at the fact that the irony of its truth had not actually dawned on me either. As I have suggested before, your logical mind is a gift in my opinion. Thanks to you I see things I would not otherwise.

For me the immigration issue is related to homelessness. Just as people want go own and live where the jobs are and the economy is bright, so too do people round the world who are mobile want too do the same. People move for opportunity or to avoid misery. Since there are lots of people and limited areas that are better to move to, the answer has to go beyond density. It has to include the improvement of the quality of life everywhere, seems to me.

I think for any who are fooled into going and/or sent against their will you're right, it is human trafficking and I'm not sure why nothing is being done. If you prosecute a few public officials for participating in this scheme I bet it would dry up fast.

It's also super dumb from a policy perspective - why would you house migrants in the most expensive housing in the country?

It's not just NY, we are fed up with Joe's 30,000,000 illegal aliens consuming billions in resources we can I'll afford.

Deportation is the only viable solution.

Sounds like you should tell Republicans to stop blocking immigration reform that includes more border security then.

When will you learn that Republicans are working against everything you claim to care about? More debt, more illegal immigration, etc.

When do you become a registered Democrat?

Reform is great so long as it does not include automatic citizenship for 30M illegals here now. We did that back in the 80s and the experiment failed.

They get deported first then we can talk.

Great, the proposed reform Republicans blocked didn’t do that.

So again, when are you registering as a democrat? They are trying to solve the problems you care about.

Ahem.. there's no such thing as automatic citizenship.

Someone being an illegal alien getting a US passport the next day is a COMPLETE FANTASY!

Because the cheapest places in the country are full of maga (and mega) racists that also form the core constituency of these grievance/culture war politicians?

It's not just staten islanders that're angry

In a poll that has Biden up 13 points over Donald Trump in their prospective 2024 rematch, a staggering 86% of registered voters in New York City and 77% of Democrats statewide said “the recent influx of migrants coming to New York” is a serious problem for the state.

A significant majority of voters in the city, 58%, said “New Yorkers have already done enough for new migrants and should now work to slow the flow of migrants to New York.”

The GOP is in ecstasy:

New York Republicans believe they have a powerful new weapon that might be even more successful against Democrats in upcoming elections than the state’s anti-bail-reform outrage in 2022: the migrant crisis.

GOP strategists said the potency of the migrant issue is analogous to how local Republicans bludgeoned Dems for approving the New York’s widely criticized cashless bail law — enabling the Grand Old Party to win key House seats in last fall’s elections and nearly scoring the governorship and spurring a red wave in in the suburbs.

The people in charge who are fumbling the migrant crisis are all Democrats — President Biden, Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams along with New York Sens. Chuck Schumer, the Democratic majority leader, and Kirsten Gillibrand, GOP insiders said.

Even some Democrats agree the crisis is a red flag for their party’s candidates.

“There is clear political trouble for Democrats if the state remains in operational disarray on this migrant issue,” said former Rep. Max Rose, who represented Staten Island and southern Brooklyn before being ousted at least partly over criminal-justice issues.

NY Dem Gov is blaming Biden:

Gov. Hochul said Thursday that she had sent a letter to the White House asking for more support for migrants pouring into New York City, placing responsibility for the crisis at President Biden’s feet in her first major address on the issue.

“Barring much-needed changes at the border, there does not appear to be a solution,” Hochul said in a 10-minute speech. “This crisis originated with the federal government, and it must be resolved through the federal government.”

Hochul, who faces growing political pressure to help the city with the crisis, stopped short of making any significant new state commitments in the speech. The state has allocated about $1.5 billion to support the migrants, the governor said.

Her three-page letter to Biden asks the federal government to deliver more funds, expedite migrants’ work papers and provide more spaces to serve as shelters.

i didn't know congress wasn't part of the federal government.

congress is literally the one to fix this, both in terms of the law and in terms of funding.
