I'm still not understanding what the problem with immigration is besides our system is outdated and shitty. Most likely the people complaining about illegal immigrants had their family come here in the past when it was far easier to get in. Hell, I've straight up talked to people who brag about their grandfather coming to the country with only $10 and then turn around and say we should only let wealthy educated immigrants in nowadays.

Nimbyism

But I don't see how this ends well for Biden.

Fox news says propaganda all the time but this is the real thing that can torpedo him imo since dems are frustrated with it.

If you actually believe Republicans will win New York State in 2024 months there are a ton of online betting markets where you could absolutely clean up. My guess you could get 10-1 odds, maybe even 20-1.

Why aren’t you doing this!? Even if you’re confining yourself to the overall presidential race a loss in New York basically guarantees a Republican win so you’ve got a tremendous opportunity here as literally no one else thinks Republicans have a chance.

You could become rich based on this insight, assuming you actually believe it, which I don’t think you do.

NYC gets a crowd bigger than that to come out and protest a LGBT veterans home for quadruple amputees and their amputee cancer having elderly dogs.

Only the worst motherfucking cranks (like Sliwa) who should be shunned by all decent society have the time or inclination to behave like this.

I'm not fully convinced but I'm alarmed.

Had to go talk to my investment banker today.. and I've known him over 15 years. We talk straight forward no filter.

Even he says maybe we made a mistake with Adams and Hochul but he admits Trump has nothing but prejudice. He is the one who stated to me.. he wouldn't be surprised by Trump winning and building gas chambers to deal with migrants. Hell if Trump says it out loud, he'd probably gain votes, not lose em.

He said he deals with clients and it's pretty easy to see why they love Trump.. Prejudice. And that's all that's needed to vote for Trump and the GOP.

The idea that there are not and never have been conservatives already in NYC, especially in Manhattan, is pretty amusing. Half the monied population of the upper east side talks like this.

If you think there's even a 20% chance of a Republican winning New York State in 2024 you have a huge opportunity here as I guarantee you can get a bet at odds way better than that. If you think it's 30% or higher my suggestion would be to invest every dime you can afford to lose. Well actually I think that's a terrible idea as you're going to lose all your money but if I sincerely believed that was going to happen I would be placing a shitload of bets.

I also struggle to understand the idea that Trump saying or doing shitty things nets him more votes considering four years of him saying and doing shitty things cost Republicans the House, the Senate, and the Presidency.

Like what bigger hint do you need that this is unpopular.

The people who like him and the shitty things he does (and promises to do again but worse) assume that their view is actually dominant, if only people were honest with themselves. As noted this has not panned out electorally at all.

If people want to be mad at somebody they should be mad at Adams who could not govern his way out of a paper bag and themselves for electing him in the first place.

People are fickle and ruled by emotions. I mean we wouldn't have Trump in the first place then if people were rational.

Right now I get accused of drinking fox koolaid because I say things that others need to hear.

Basically I do it because I don't want dems comfortable and relaxed and then not understand how hillary lost again.

I think that there is a real unhappiness here with migrants and congressional districts might flip but states maybe not. NJ and CT would be a lot closer than usual. I could be wrong but instead of the 15 point NJ win.. it could be down to 7 or 5.

I'd love to get GA, PA, MI and AZ again. NV too.

But I am hoping Gen Z bails us out and we get Biden again.

AOC calls Biden's decision cruel:

But you know its bad electorally when even hardcore left channels are saying something needs to be done to calm dem voters:

Again no fox news, no right wing propaganda.. it's just dem NIMBYism!

When you elect a Republican lite for mayor like Adams, of course NYC is not going to do amazing. He sucks.

He's no Democrat
New York, the city and state, excel at turnout suppression:
  • Low turnout primaries that effectively decide general elections
  • Off-year elections for key positions (eg, mayoral election takes place the year after a presidential election)
  • Too many offices to vote for
  • Too many random elections for various special districts

Could have had the Sanitation Lady, but nope...

Yeah I never understood why the hell we vote for mayor in a year when we don't vote for the President or the Governor.

Edit: and apparently we have no way to impeach or remove or recall the mayor either.

Historically, likely to help ensure that it was easy for a political machine to keep the people it wants in charge. Today, it just helps cement incumbent dysfunction. And the only way to change that is to get people out to vote, but with the barriers that are put up and a system recalcitrant to change, that is difficult.

It's also incredibly stupid to have 2 legislative houses in state governments, that further impedes accountability and passing laws, but perhaps that's a topic for another thread.

Agreed.

Now's as good a time as any for the City Council to come up with a method to remove a mayor.

I did not understand the history of segregation and redlining and suppression until I visited there and witnessed how the parkways worked. My truck with the extended canopy would not fit, nor the 8'6" wide trailer. That got me digging into it.

He was a POS in that regard, but he also wasn't doing anything particularly unique for highway planners at the time (ie, nuking cities to build highways).

Another place you see it in NYC: some highways have sections that are trenched below grade, but in other areas they pop above ground (looking at you, BQE), and it largely aligned with more well-off/whiter neighborhoods vs poorer/more minority-filled neighborhoods.

Democratic or Republican party, it seems to me, will not act against money in politics. It would follow from this if true that city governments pass laws that provide contributions from the few at the top of the wealth pyramid. The only political sway people at the bottom will ever have is the vanishing moral empathy that any in need of a competitive advantage can't afford. Nothing will change without changing the system and the agents of change control the system. I pity the poor immigrant....whose only hope is to harden himself and take. The great message that America truly teaches is to think only of yourself. The self hate that produces is a cultural death sentence.

People are getting fed up here and we might soon be entering a no more male asylum seekers sentiment!

I don't want to see my state turn red.. so dems in congress need to pay attention here..

Hate to say it but those bus rides from Texas to New York are having an effect after a year.. gotta stop letting them in at the border and send these people back.

Not right wing propaganda.. just liberal nimbyism..

Biden has flown way more migrants to NY than Texas has bussed to NY.
