Anyone get this "Recon" version today? I have a feeling its just a demo, but i also hear its on UT2k3 engine! check it out: America's Army
Yeah, but I just edited splash.bmp with my desktop color so I don't even notice it anymore.Originally posted by: SimonCrux
Anyone else find the GIANT NVIDIA SPLASH SCREEN vaguely annoying?
That's weird! I don't have that one at all. Did you download from Nvidia's site? I got mine from fileplanet and no splash screen from nvidia for me.Originally posted by: SimonCrux
I tested out the demo earlier this morning on my rig. For using the UT2k3 engine it didn't seem to use the terrain effects as much as I had hoped (especially after seeing the UT2k3 demos). Still looks pretty nice, much better than CS, as expected for a much later generation game. I tried to get into a multiplayer game but it jumped back to the menu. I'll try it again later today. Anyone else find the GIANT NVIDIA SPLASH SCREEN vaguely annoying? Can't complain with free though... well some people can ;-)

Well, got some better information on the net as how to setup the dedicated and have settings stick a bit better. Here is the proper link
Anyhow, I turned off the verification if you have qualified or not and start on Insurgent_Camp.aao.
I still see a lot of people connected to my server (at max, over 530+), but that has died down to around 250 (and climbing). Now I belive the values of the MaxClientRate and MaxPlayers are sticking, but I don't think the dedicated server is accurately showing how many people are actually "playing" vs people waiting in line.
I'm anxious to leave here, head home and play some, but nothing I can do now about it. Hopefully, I should have some time tonight to try it out (even if it means I have to kill the server and restart, just for me).

Those are the UT ports, not AA ports. Forward 1716-1718 for net play. If you forward 27900, it'll be advertised on GameSpy.Originally posted by: Slogun
Thanks again for all that helpful info Vash. I was able to get AAO working on my comp by deselecting enable direct 3d in dxdiag and then re-enabling it.
I was also able to set up a dedicated server and joined it from my LAN. However it appeared that people on the internet could not join it despite my making it available on Gamespy according to your directions.
I assume the problem is with port forwarding on my router. Not sure what ports to forward, but from what I read, it appeared that ports 7777, 8777 and 9777 are involved, so I forwarded all of those.
Any other ideas on ports?

are you sure it's running the UT2K engine?
I heard that but I also hear it's running a modofied unreal1 engine. Like the one used in UT.

wow this game seems to have some nice graphics, anyone know which engine its based on? okay is anyone having frame rate problems? i'm getting only 40 fps while standing still and 10-20 while in a firefight. i'm currently using a geforce 4 4200 and p4 2.2 ghz. i'm pretty sure i should have higher fps than this. i have the most updated drivers and i'm only running in 1024x768.
