The rankings don't include private schools, and are basically weighted according to how many AP exams the students take. I wouldn't put too much stock into them.

I was wondering about that, no Harvard-Westlake or Harker on the list. (HW sent over 30 kids to Penn in ONE YEAR... that's INSANE).

black, hispanic or amer indian. in the top 100 list they have that note in a tooltip.

is it me or is there no large schools included in this? most schools were listed as less than 1000 kids over 4 grades. my hs had that in my class alone. close to 3500 kids in the whole school. i wonder how biased (or if any) the results were?

Brooklyn Tech has over 4,000. Around 4,600 total, if memory serves.
One of the largest high schools in the country. Even the building is pretty big. Hated going up from basement to 10th floor, lol. Horrible.

why are there so many asians in these schools?
looking by the numbers, you'd think half of the US was asian.

obviously, because Asians are academically, intellectually, and genetically superior to any other race :awe:

Two words: asian parents

Seriously, though, immigrants who come to this country have a greater desire and thrive to see their kids do well, mainly because a lot of them struggled in order to get to this country and get to where they are in life.

Most of that drive gets lost after a generation or two as cultures and families get more and more integrated into the United States.

It's a cultural and values thing, has nothing to do with natural ability or intelligence.

so how does that correlate to the few black kids enrolled to these schools?

obviously, it's affirmative action.

Seriously, are you this stupid? What kind of question is this? HOW DOES THAT CORRELATE? There's no correlation, what the hell are you talking about?

Cool... The high school I went to was probably in the bottom 1% when it comes to academics.

I lived nowhere near big cities that would have these schools...

lol...my school is #95

Its funny cause its 20% black, 54% hispanic, and 21.8% white. 3.8% asian enrollment. Theres 3k students, so it means theres literally only ~110 asian kids in the entire school (seems about the right number when I went there).

This should tell you two things.
1) By the looks of this post, my school is an oddball
2) There are no Asians in Miami.

The school pays for all AP exams, I wasn't even aware you had to pay for those things until I went to college. They didn't force you into them, but most kids there took AP classes regardless.

#100 has 63% "college preparedness?" and it seems 75-100 are in that 70-60% range.

...this sounds sad, and I do not believe this represents the top 100 high schools.

LOL, Latin School of Chicago isn't even in the top 100.

JK (half-day program): $19,340
SK-grade 5: $21,685
grades 6-12: $25,845

/edit: nm, the list is public schools only.

Im assuming they got rid of the privite schools?

There are privite schools in NYC and LA that would rape ANY public school.

Example.

In Los Angeles:
Marlborogh - all girls school
Harvard Westlake
Buckly

But those schools have a similar tution fee that you'd find on a BMW / BENZ per year.
Also probably has the highest IV league acceptance rate in Cali.

I see, finally in the 4th paragraph it says 'public'.

$25k a year for 6-12 is insane tho.

yeah i was gonna say..

its a no brainer nothing in los angeles has gotten close to the top 10.

In LA you dont send your kids to public unless you cant afford privite.
The quality of eduction is seriously night and day.

I am a product of public school eduction, while my brother is private and you can see a clear difference in the level of education.

Are you saying that the more money a school has the better edukashin they provide?

When did this never apply?
More money = better technology = better teaching staff = better connections to the better colleges.

oh wait i see you meant it as a sarcasm.

The only list my HS would make would probably be most violent It's an inner city school that was devastated by violence during the desegregation/busing era. In my four years there in the 70's nine students died on campus from race related violence.

LOL my Junior high school was ranked at the top JHS for LAUSD. It was public.
It was there for a while, and a lot of the graduates even got accepted to the privates i listed above.
The people i still talk to who were in my class all went to nice colleges even.

Then LAUSD introduced something stupid called Magnet.
At first it was a great concept which only applied to the students who were classed as "gifted" <-- yes there was a class called gifted in LAUSD.

But then it became more of a lets bring less fortunate people into the nicer area schools.

Now the nicer area's have gang problems because of the magnet schools, and the property near those schools have dropped a lot because of the increased violence.

Great concept LAUSD.
Magnet? in LA we call it gang territory expansion.

Now u see why in LA everyone says send your kids to private or MOVE out of LA if you value your kids.

not a single Toledo, Ohio school was ranked in anything according to the "search by state".

I am so proud.
Our Career/Technical building was fairly well known, however, always made a strong showing in competitions, quite often going to the National levels (I was one of them who got that privilege).
