1. Old news.
2. The fact that it ends tonight is still not a hot deal.

Don't get me wrong. I'll miss it.

Remember, only BLUE cards optima i hear soon to go too but GOLD don't lose it. It costs $70/year (something like $20 for each additional) but remember guys you get this back ten fold throughout the course of the year.

<< I'm a newbie ... is there no more BVG? >>

Affirmative..

To be quite honest with you fellow members I have used this great program only 3 times actually the 3rd one was filed today (sb4100). It was a great program that amex provided. Will be missed dearly!

Go Gold. Only $70 a year. Well worth the BVG.

BTW, BVG does not necessarily end tonight for the Blue card. As long as you make a purchase by May 1 with your Blue card, you can file a claim still within the usual 60 days.

Yeah, too bad it's gone now. But i'm wondering if i dish out the $70/year for the gold if it might go too? Anyone know anything?!

I just got off the phone with the CSR. The quality for the final day, the invoice has to be dated 4/30 or earlier. If it is dated May 1 and beyond then it will not qualify. You 1 1/2 hours left to buy your goods. Good luck.

i spoke with two different bvg reps today about the program. they are not removing bvg from ANY annual fee amex card. so the gold card (as mentioned above) would be one possible alternative.

That sounds good that they aren't getting rid of it with the annual fee cards. Is there an AE card that has a lower annual fee than the gold?!

Pecel, it's not the shipping date that counts. It's when you ordered it. AMEX will honor it.

Half a dozen CSRs have confirmed that it's the date of the charge as it appears on your statement that determines whether the purchase will or will not qualify for BVG coverage (on Blue of course)...if the purchase date on the statement is 4/30 or earlier, you're covered. 5/01 and later, you're not. Anyone that went out and bought something on Blue after the first post in this thread was posted will find that the purchase is not covered under BVG.

That all depends on the clock/time zone of the retalier. Amazon, Outpost and some others on the west coast are still good.

<I have always wondered how they made money with people like us here.>

They DIDN'T make money with people like us abusing the program and that is why it no longer exists. It was not initially set up to allow people like us to consistently score a better price at the expense of the American Express company; it was set up for legitimate buyers who subsequently found the same product at a lower price.

Hard as it is for many here to accept, the people running this program, and others that are regularly abused, are just as smart, or smarter, as an undergrad, and they KNOW what is going on. When the abuse gets to the point that it is costing a company more money than is made from the additional customers such a perk brings in, they kill the program without compunction. They tolerate being easy marks until the bottom line dictates otherwise, then they pull the plug.

When the scammers move to their other cards, it is just a matter of time until BVG goes down the tube there too.

I do not sit in judgement: It is a given that if a program can be abused, there are those who will do so. Human nature is as it is...

Best of luck on the next conquest, but you better be fast, because it won't last long.

I don't hold much hope for the following. I did a BVG on the 29th. The CS as always was very nice, told me to write AMX and tell them to reinstate the program. She said over the last month they have been very very busy with increased purchases and price comparisons. This is good for them and maybe good for us. It sounds like a layoff for a very nice group of CS.

I'd like to hear whether we should band together and write.
