No annual fee first year, only $30 afterwards. You earn 1 point per dollar. 1 point = 1.25 airline miles!

starwood points are great for hotel stays at high-end hotels like W, Westin, St Regis.. 3000-4000 points can get you a free room that normally cost $100+/night

BVG is still good for printed advertisings. so this is a good card to have. Just used it recent on the Panasonic Ht900 home theater system, saved $200.

see this page for tips on how to use/earn starpoints.

UPDATE:

new promotion:
EARN DOUBLE STARPOINTS® WHEN YOU SHOP WITH YOUR CARD FROM JUNE 15 TO JULY 15, 2004

HOWEVER, This offer is only available to Cardmembers with BILLING ADDRESS in the greater Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., or Los Angeles areas....

Call 1-800-653-6051 to enroll for this offer first. This offer is good for new and old card members.

BVG is still good for printed advertisements...not necessarily local only stores. Up to $250 back per item and a maximum of $1000 back per year. Is there an annual membership fee? I don't recall having to pay for one on mine.

The regular annual fee is $30 I believe.

I just got it too. I'm curious, it says the deal expires on 3/31/04. Does that mean I need to charge it first to get the 4,000 SW points? I dont think I will receive the card in time.

Just saw this as the fineprint:
*To be eligible for the 4,000 Starpoints, you must apply through the special promotion e-mail or website URL link and you must make your first purchase with the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card by American Express within one year of approval. Starpoints will be credited to your account 8-12 weeks after qualifying purchase.

I guess I can use it after 3/31.

some people have reported success with online purchases with BVG.. so it's YMMV for online purchases.

Thank you, Dealonfire, for the heads-up that this ends today. I had been meaning to apply and kept putting it off. Thanks to your update, I applied today and will get the bonus miles!

You can cancel anytime. However the annual fee is only $25-$30 after the first year. It's a good card to have since you can earn essentially 1.25 miles per dollar spent.

i've had this card for six months and i love it. racking up those air miles. it's great because you can transfer miles into any major airline frequent flier account, with the 5,000 mile bonus at 20,000 miles. BUT i had no idea it had BVG when i signed up!! haha. that definitely makes this card truly the best!! i think i got like 5,000 or 6,000 bonus miles when i signed up too.

definitely. I can't find any other card that earns essentially 1.25 miles per dollar. That's equivalent of 1.85 cents per dollar. The annual fee is only $30, that is a small price to pay. and the first year it's free.

If you don't have a starwood frequent guest program account, when you sign up the card, a starwood account is automatically created for you.

I am sure you have a starwood frequent guest program account. Call the number on the back of your card, and ask them what is your starwood preferred guest program account number. With that number, you can find out how many points you have earned.

I've currently got an Amex corp gold card that costs me something like $75/year, can I transfer my AmEx reward points from that card to the Starwood if I were to get the Starwood card?

Thanks
