How about you two idiots actually contribute something useful? A quick Google search shows that this is true. Anarchist was right and you two were wrong.

How is stating the name of the website hosting the document "wrong".

I'm sure the National Inquirer runs factual articles too. What would you say to me if I started posting National Inquirer articles to prove my point? Exactly.

If you agree with the family you're retarded. Plain and simple.

Its fairly well known in med ethics that if a parent denies life saving treatment all you need is a court order to resume. The kind of lymphoma she has is very treatable with proper chemo, she'll die without it.

As for the alternative treatments they are referencing? Ask Steve Jobs, he will tell you about their effectiveness.

If that's all they're going to do why bother posting (trolling) in the thread?

Preventing child abuse is indeed a horrible form of the state intruding in a private family matter! What's next, will they also try battling incest and other forms of child abuse that are perfectly fine with Anarchist420 and Incorruptible as long as the person doing it claims it's religious practice?

Letting the kid die a horrible death is indeed preferable to saving her life, right?

They weren't "forced" to do anything. They chose to neglect their child's well being in the name of religion. They are going to allow their child to suffer because they are idiots who think that "God" is going to heal her cancer.

RIP, child.

i agree but some religionists (?) wouldn't want the child after that and would consider the child dead as the gov interfered in "gods will" or some such. in that situ do the gov just put the kid into care or try to force the parents to take her back?

These cases suck. It's a tough nexus between religious freedom and protecting the health and welfare of the child. Personally I come down on the side of ensuring the child gets the required medical treatment even if it against the wishes,of the parents.

Hopefully though no one opposed to abortion is supporting the parents position in this case.

i guess not even amish people will be safe from u.s. govt intrusion anymore.
why did the u.s. govt have to do this?

OP get your facts straight. It is not the federal government. The actions taken were taken by the state of Ohio.

And just to be clear you are ok with the girl dying even if her illness is treatable?

"Our belief is the natural stuff will do just as much as that stuff if it’s God’s will.”
Huh, interesting. Before the human-discovered practices of basic hygiene and modern medicine showed up, "god's will" frequently favored death as the cure.

Probably via a bridge
It was interesting to see, in a documentary, some Amish people using plastic laundry baskets. I wonder if they have any idea how much modern technology is used be used in the creation of a plastic injection molding machine, or anything it produces. Sure, I've seen old CNC machines that store their programs on small magnetic tape cartridges, but I don't think that they're "horse and buggy" old-school.

The Amish aren't against technology, they're against technology that under-mines the community. They don't own cars because that allows you to live\move farther away and be less reliant on the community, but tractors and snowblowers are fine, and so is hitching a ride on someone else's car. Electricity from the public utility is bad because now you're relying on the government, but batteries and solar cells are perfectly fine.

Also, each different Amish church decides on their own what technology is fine, and what isn't. Which is why some amish have propane fridges and others aren't allowed.

The real kicker is their belief that the natural remedies will be as effective as chemotherapy "if it's God's will". If they had said they preferred a shorter life with improved QoL over a chemo-prolonged life filled with vomiting and hospitalisation (don't know if this would have actually been the case, not enough info), I think they would have been fine. People make this decision all the time, though for children it's a bit trickier. It was their blatant lack of knowledge about the subject matter that really sealed it IMO.
