What will be interesting is how they take a guy who has no real super powers and make a movie out of it.

He'll be the first non-super super hero.

And what are they going to do with him in the avengers movie? Cap'n can't stand up next to Thor or Iron Man. Will be interesting to see how they work him in with the 'real' super heros.

Um, Iron Man and Green Lantern fall under that also as it's just some equipment that give them the abilities.

At least Captain got the super strength and such from the experiment so he kinda is a superhero.

... The biggest problem with superhero movies is the villains, they're severely lacking. They are not doing justice to their villains and so its keeping their movies average. I think the main reason that Ledger's Joker was so raved about is because of how weak villains have been. The last decent villain was probably Jack's Joker in the first Burton Batman and that was pretty kitschy. Doc Oc wasn't bad, but he was barely a villain.

I thought the villains in Batman Begins were well-done.

As far as Marvel superheros goes, Captain America is sort of a jingoistic cliche of the Office of War Information... the costume is just ridiculous. But that's fine, it was during WW2 after all.

But Marvel and Paramount are trying to turn it into a real-life movie with some quasi-realistic basis a la Batman Begins... with the guy still dressed up like the ambiguously gay version of uncle Sam. Am I really the only that thinks it's stupid?

I agree. I thought Scarecrow was lame, though. only because I don't like Scarecrow, but I agree that the character was great for a, uh..."serious" comic book movie. Raz Alghuel [sic] was great, too. Ledger was also badass as Joker.

Honestly, I think many of the villains have been awesome--

--Green Goblin (you will never fail with DeFoe. never)
--Doc Oc
--Magneto (always awesome)
--those in Watchmen (no spoilers--it is, to me, the echelon of current CB films. almost perfect)
--The Batman flicks (except Two Face was ruined. fuck that)

and plenty of sucked:
--the Hulk films
--Both Iron Mans (Seriously, Iron Man 2 sucked balls. very disappointing)
--anything else from DC.
--Spider Man 3. (Though, they get special credit for completing the near impossible task of utterly ruining one of the greatest modern comic villains ever. kudos.)
--Phoenix/Jean Grey. OK...not as great as Venom (character-wise), but far more dangerous, certainly. damn it--so psyched for her appearance after the awesomeness that was X-Men 2, then...this happened. le sigh...
