5x the legal limit, .40 to .50, is the upper end of what I've personally ever encountered, and it's easily enough to kill you. 10x the legal limit would be instantly lethal to almost everyone, and would be approaching some of the highest BACs ever recorded.
Alcohol is incredibly toxic. This fact becomes spectacularly evident once you're a real alcoholic and see the kinds of things it does in massive quantities.
