With all the other hard drugs available, it's amazing how alcohol remains such a huge killer and destroyer of lives, even amongst the glitterati where you could assume they'd have both the means (money) and the access (Yo, Amy! Want some coke?) to any poison they might want.

Very toxic, but the effects of alcohol are quite pleasent indeed, even compared to some of the illicit options out there. Plus you don't have to hide it.

"Three empty vodka bottles, two large and one small, were found at her flat, St Pancras Coroners Court heard."

That's a lot of alcohol.

So sad, it seemed like she was starting to cleanup her life

I'd have to disagree with that. I'm not a fan of being drunk. Makes me feel like shit, and dulls the brain.

Only 5x the "driving limit"?

I probably drink 10x the driving limit on a weekly basis.

She died because her body was weak from all the other drug abuse in her life, not from one night of barely respectable bing drinking.

To be fair she was past the LD50 for alcohol. Most people at 416mg per 100ml or .416 would either be dead or close to it. Severe respiratory depression starts occurring around .350, so .416 is definitely enough to kill someone.

It's more like she had been sober for a while and her body wasn't used to that much alcohol. But she remembered drinking that much in the past and surviving, except now her body was prepared for it and....well it led to her death.

I doubt she was counting her drinks, thinking this is about what I used to drink, lol. She had the disease of "more" like most drunks/addicts- more of this, more of that, more of anything and everything. There's no thoughts of "maybe I've had enough" or that they have reached a comfortable high, just more.

This. It's not hard as an addict to just keep chugging them down until someone is picking you up off of the floor. I actually drink faster the drunker I get, to the point that I'm basically just alternating pissing and drinking.

Yeah, no. That's a serious bender BAC. A daily-drinker drink all day BAC.

Depending on where you live, in the US the legal limit is usually either .08 or .10.

5x the legal limit, .40 to .50, is the upper end of what I've personally ever encountered, and it's easily enough to kill you. 10x the legal limit would be instantly lethal to almost everyone, and would be approaching some of the highest BACs ever recorded.

Alcohol is incredibly toxic. This fact becomes spectacularly evident once you're a real alcoholic and see the kinds of things it does in massive quantities.

Its .08 everywhere in the US now pretty sure.

It's all good man. I've just lost some friends to booze and I'm in recovery myself, so I tend to become somewhat of a soapbox-stander when it's the topic.

Standing down now. Carry on!

Just think what could have happened if she was doing illegal drugs....oh, wait.

You mean instead of the alcohol, or in addition to it. Cause if it's instead of a number of them illegal drugs are probably less toxic.
