Is it wrong for me to think this is definitely the proper punishment for the guy? Maybe I wouldn't take it as far as to say we should institute this here, but we should send our most heinous criminals to Iran and have them deal with them.

I generally don't support eye for an eye punishments. I feel as if it degrades the punisher's to same same pathetic level as the criminals.

Still, while I don't condone such punishment, I can't say he doesn't deserve it.

I have no problem with that either. If they want to die rather than use my tax dollars keeping them in jail that's cool. But I think the thought of getting acid thrown in your face would be pretty good incentive not to throw acid in someone elses face. Rather than go out in a blaze of glory I think most would choose not to do the crime in the first place. But either way it's win-win because they damn well won't do it again.

Disfigure their wife so they won't be unfaithful? At least, that seems to be the motivation for this attack.

Also, you can get HCl at any hardware store (it's sold as muriatic acid). I think it's diluted some, but still very strong. And I guess sulphuric can be found in lead-acid batteries.
