So I've been hearing this pulsing and stopping lately, it almost sounded like a case fan revving up then stopping. I messed around with things, finally unplugging my Samsung SATA DVD-RW drive... and it fixed the problem. Thinking back to when the noise had started, I Realized it all began a few weeks ago when I installed vista.
Curious, I took my portable XP drive, and booted the computer off of that... no pulsing buzz sound. I also let the computer sit in bios for a while as an experiment... again, no pulse. I booted it back to vista, and am getting the random pulses. It almost sounds like vista is 'pinging' the drive to check for available media or something. I'm assuming this has to do with native vista drivers? Anyone have similar issues?
