i've been looking at anandtech since '96 and recently i've got a gripe. anyone else notice that the review conclusions are starting to get watered down? i mean... how many review end with... "is this product worth it... well yes and no"... dammit!!!! give me a definate answer as a person that would visit anandtech would expect. dont get me wrong this is still a great site but it's getting a little too P.C. (pun intended). i'm sure alot of you know what i'm talking about

You've been reading since 96 and you only have 2 posts?

I can make my own conclusion as to if it's worth it or not so it doesn't really matter what they think on that matter. As long as they put the product through it's paces thoroughly

The fact is, Anandtech does the best unbiased reviews out there.

If you want to read a review saying buy this or that, you would like Tom's, as they are full of crap usually, & will tell you what they think, even if it's biased BS.

Anandtech's reviews give you a good explanation of all sides of the story, & they let you make your own decision

Not everything is black or white; everyone has differing tastes, requirements and budgets. Unless a product is absolute junk, it may be terrific for one person but worthless for another.

a.) You are a troll - you registered just to say something nasty.
b.) You are in the wrong forum
c.) AT did not exist in '96
d.) Since you only have 2 posts (all in this thread), you have no right to criticize anything
e.) If you want to advertise a competing site, you should pay the going rates.

go back to tom's hardware if its better, opening up your big mouth is not going to change anything here anyway, since nobody cares what you think, and your slimy attempt to drive people to that site are a waste of time.

I read oither sites reviews aswell as Anandtech and I like anandtechs the most just because the "yes and no" things. They dont try to sell you a product. They are trying to provide an unbiased review of a product.

For instance lets say they review a Geforce 7800GTX and in conclusion they say. So is this product a good choice for everyone? Why YES IT IS!! If you are doing word processing this Graphics card will speed up your typing skills and with microsucks wordz 3.11 'ho versions new 2d rendering your characters will be shown a fraction of a nano second faster on the screen!

Nah. I like it better when they say more in the lines of. Is this product worth it for you? Well yes and no. Yes if you're an avid gamer and likes to have the fastest out there and dont mind shelling out 500 bucks for top notch performance. But if you dont game as much you should settle for [Product X] or similar.

someone tried to attack me as a troll so i'll respond...

yes, anandtech has been online since 96 or 97. i remember a friend recomending this site to me when i was working at tech support when i was 21. my friend's exact words were "you gotta check out this 14 year old kid's website" (not sure if he was actually 14). i was here when anand was giving rave reviews about the the first abit jumperless motherboard and went out and bought one the next day.

as for only 2 postings, i don't do forums, but i feel strongly in this issue. most readers of this website are savy with their hardware and are at least mid users with a midsize budget so why include junk like... "if you just use it for word proccessing or don't want to spend a lot... blah blah". Cnet does that

I have to admit that's a bit harsh. People with low post counts doesn't mean their opinions are worthless like the opinion of a low-itelligience lifeform. Everyone is equal.

The guy is commenting on the reviews of the main site; which has nothing to do with the forum.

I have to say reviews ought to give readers their own choice to make; but not a definite answer.

That's not true at all, there are many excellent review sites and they all seem to have their strengths and weaknesses depending on the type of hardware being reviewed. I believe Anandtech is in the top 3-4 overall but no site is flawless. Hardocp closes a review I believe the best. I do think that the op has a point there does need to be more buy it or not definitive stands. But as one of the other posters correctly pointed out, not everything is black or white. Everyone has different desires and needs, in the world of hardware there is no one size fits all.

It dont matter whether or not you're a troll...what does matter and remains a fact is that AT is simply the best review site there is, if you're looking for unbiased opinions and a thorough review. TH sucks big-time, in my opinion since they seem terribly biased, among other things (how anout the cluttered interface, for starters?)

If you take the time to read through an AT review thoroughly you'll end up with a pretty good idea about whether or not the product is for you. I personally hate sites that get all gung-ho about recommending a product to everyone. Thats not the way it should be done IMO - there's just too many people with too many products and expectations to choose from for anyone to recommend a single product.

AT is the original, most others are simply wannabes.

It's often the case that one product is not the best choice in all situations.

For example a Raptor gives fast loading of game levels, but costs twice as much as a 160 GB drive that's fast enough for most people. Raptors are also not the best choice for people concerned with heat or noise.

AMD's 4400+ is a great dual-core CPU for someone willing to spend $500+ but a cheaper, slower intel will be better for some people who aren't gaming. For single-core CPUs intels are still better in a few situations (encoding if gaming performance is not also wanted).

Most of the conclusions in articles I've read have tried to point out these tradeoffs, since AT readers are not just l33t g4m3rz.

heh that is actually outdated.
Should be corrected to:
For single-core CPUs AMDs are better in a all situations (except if encoding is all you do).

I am always amazed when these threads come up people just say Toms sucks. That is a joke. He may be arrogant and his attitude flavor is sour, but man no site reviews more stuff and investigates more things concerning hardware than Toms. Every site has its achilles heel, but man it is ridculous when folks say his site sucks. I love the boy wonder, Anand, he has done a fine job and this site continues to improve, but even Anandtech isn't at Toms caliber yet. Just the sheer amount of info available at Toms warrants the nod over so many hardware sites ain't it even funny.

And I consider this my home too. I love it here, but I got to call a spade a spade.

Give me quality over quantity any day! You're entitled to your opinion, and if you think TH rocks, so be it! I'll make up my own mind about which site is better.

I didn't say he rocked, I am just saying only a fool would say his site sucks. To be honest Toms paved the way for many sites. Whether you like a person or not, sometimes you gotta give them their just due. And while Anand has a higher percentage of quality, Toms ain't to far behind.

look... i'm not saying that anandtech is not a great site and that AT shouldn't do it in some cases, but it seems like he's catering to either his sponsors or the hardware companies more. it didn't seem like this when he had to buy his own stuff way back when. i've hardly seen a review where anand states the product is a complete waste of money anymore.

this kinda reminds me of the days when sega genesis and turbo grafx were having a riveray and every gaming magazine gave "yes no answers". then computer gaming mag straight out said the genesis was better. every other magazine said they were bias and some advertisers pulled out. in the end... it was the right thing to do.

again, anandtech is a great site, but it's difficult to know what is a quality product given today's high standards.

I'll say it again, this time more clearly - TH sucks, especially when compared to AT. If you think that's foolish, I don't have anything to say to you, except repeat myself:
Everyone's entitled to their own opinions.
This thread is about comparing AT to TH - and the answer as to which one is better is as clear as day.

What you're saying is you want someone to make your mind up for you, right? TH fits your requirements.

AT is a 'classy' (pun not intended, Classy) site that reviews better products, which explains why a thumbs down is sort of rare out here. Or maybe you want them to start reviewing the crappy products that exist just so you see that the reviewer describes a product as a waste of money. But then, that will turn AT turn into another TH!

ehh, generally AT's reviews and forums are top notch.

However, I, and probably many other people, was horribly burned by AT's review of the Dell 1905FP and its excellent gaming capability. Total crap I tell you! It's gotta be a devious Darth Sideous type (or should I say Dell Sideous) ploy to get me to buy a 1905, then can't game on it, then forced to trade up to a 2001/2005 LCD.

That rant aside, you can get some good info off of this site if you sift through all the trash which inevitably fills up any internet based resource.

you guys are kinda missing the point... anand doesn't tell you what to buy and what not to buy and that's cool... i don't have problems with the charts and hard facts... but in the conclusions every product seem to fill some sort of niche one way or another. he doesn't NOT recomend a product that often anymore. i'm just wondering how much politics acutally goes into.

for all those getting your flaming torch ready... this is one gripe i have with AT and it's certainly opinion based... i love this site never-the-less. i hope you guys understand where i'm coming from
