Detached housing has egress from every bedroom, plus the front and often a back door. Even jumping out of a second story window is easily survivable, that becomes iffy on the third floor, and will almost certainly cause massive trauma from the forth.
Home fires are at historic lows, and modern fireproofing and standards can easily cover the other issues with MFH.

Absolutely correct. Those standards are what add cost. Again, as density increases so do the rules that govern how we build. There are diminishing returns the higher you go. Saying "just build higher" is the same as saying "just make electric cars go a thousand miles on a charge". It sounds easy if you say it fast, but the reality is that complexity adds cost. There just isn't any getting around it.

Some of the rules that have been put in place for density in the US are arbitrary and not aligned with international safety standards or necessary with modern building techniques and materials.

Regardless, density is a perfectly fine thing to advocate for and build when so much stuff is detached sprawl in the places people want to live.

To some extant, I agree. People that want high density housing should absolutely have that option, and people that want low density should have that option as well. Personally, I chose low density small town living because that's what I like. There is plenty of affordable housing around here, in a clean quiet community.

if only there were some way we could study housing prices across the entire country instead of using one small locale as being representative of the whole (which it's not)

Complexity adds cost but building higher still brings the per unit cost down.

Since cities are just prison camps that house economically captured people, people who either need a job to have some sort of life, or who become addicted to what their money can do to impress the people around them, survive on the social services, such as they are there to survive, perhaps, etc., instead of building housing we should build millions and millions of yachts as that seems to be where having more money than one person could ever need proves to be the ideal when it comes to housing.

Alternatively, we could cut out the silly notion that we are all free to live where we can afford to live, which Mayans nowhere at all for many, and just have the prison system build millions more cells. Maybe 10 by 10 with a cot and a pot and communal showers and doors that lock but from the inside all at tax payers expense. Each jail house could be situated within an industrial park that creates the goods to service the people coup.

If you had more money than you could ever spend where would you live?

You have some extremely strange notions about cities, and perhaps you should self reflect and evaluate your assumptions.

You may be assuming that what I posted are things I believe are true rather than things I said to introduce thoughts subversive to normal lines of thought on such matters.

Perhaps I posted absurdities that arise out of assuming things are true that parallel the absurdities I find in trying to solve the problem of homelessness within the current system. The system we live in is sick and can only yield sick answers if not addressed.

You can’t solve the problem of homelessness by building affordable housing that will not be built. It will require the use of violence and force against NIMBYism that will be powerfully resisted. It will require a revolution, a taking by the have nots from the haves. Why not have a revolution that works for detaches survival from having a job. If your needs are met you can live anywhere.
