In light of TweakBoy's epic thread about how an F4 is as fast as an SSD, I would like to formally invite him to compare benchmarks.

My OCZ Vertex 2 boots Windows 7 x64 in 10 seconds. Firefox loads up in about a second. Larger apps might take 2 or 3 seconds depending on how large they are. Shutdowns and reboots are almost instantaneous.

I would also be willing to compare my Hitachi 1000.C with his F4.

TIA

Someone actually wrote that their F4 was faster than an SSD? Is he daft?

Some people like to justify their purchases, and some go to great lengths to do so.
Colored PCBs
Low Level format
HDD>SSD
The list goes on...

Before last week, it had been almost a year since i had been on AT. it's hilarious that TweakBoy's reputation is exactly the same. At least he's tenacious.

I just booted up a few fifteen year-old 2GB hard drives, the data is as fresh as the day it was written. The data retention of an unpowered 34nm MLC SSD is likely 12 months, 25nm even less. It would take days to kill an SSD with continuous writes, years worth of writes for the traditional spindle drive...

So that means HDDs can fill two roles better than SSDs, long term storage(up to the point where they are hopelessly obsolete), and high capacity storage?

F4 Outperforms an SSD at what? It is heavier, so I guess it would sink faster if you dropped it in the toilet.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen Tweak for awhile now. Hopefully he is still around.

Huh? The official spec calls for 10years retention time iirc for 34nm flash, so where do you get that information?

I love my SSD(s), but you can't beat spindle disks for their storage capabilities.

Tweakboy and his 'Little F4 that could' hehe

Count me in as one of those people that have never had a spindle drive fail on them but have had an SSD randomly die.

I do not trust SSDs at all, but they are fast.

In a recent thread about how an F4 is as fast as an SSD, I would like to compare benchmarks.

I would also be willing to compare my Hitachi 1000.C with an F4.

You are aware that you could have accomplished this without calling out another member... which is against the rules.

So unless you want to tempt things, perhaps a few changes are in order?

What's the point of this thread?

A 60GB Vertex 2 is faster than any spindle-based drive, but there are also plenty of SSDs out there that are faster and more reliable than a 60GB Vertex 2. Both of these facts should be common knowledge for any educated tech enthusiast. Was the call-out really needed?
