Personally, I don't believe that leaving the TeAm is going to do any good in this situation, but mondobyte must do what he thinks is right. In that I support him.

I just noticed the last line in his opening post

"Should DRingdahl be taken to task or should I "move on" "

Sounds like he didn't need much time to make up his mind.

hunh, i assumed "move on" meant drop the issue and see if it resolves itself. not that i voted for that but i didn't think he'd leave.

Nope. Despite the support... I suspect his mind was already made up over something else...

I don't think Mondo considers this to be trivial

edit: I didn't mean that to sound nasty.... sorry about that <------

**sigh**... this is supposed to be fun guys/gals.

Mondo, you have every right to be upset over not getting what was promised to you, but also remember that there's nothing we(TheTeAm) can really do about it. We can't force him to pay up. DRingdahl owes you some sort of explaination, not us.

Mondo, if you are really leaving the TeAm(i see you've left some projects) i wish you the best & i'm sorry you felt you had to leave. Good luck to you.

Well personally, I too would like to know why he hasn't followed through and made good on his promise. He did afterall invoke this contest in the interest of benefitting Team Anandtech, so it's only reasonable that we see the winner rewarded for the effort.

By that I don't mean mondo to leave the TeAm but to move on to other things and mark this experience as "learnt for life." It was a promise, it wasn't fulfilled, that's how life goes.
Yes, it's bad style of Dringdahl not to keep his promise, but then I have NO idea what's going on in the man's life. Maybe he has some good reasons for his actions. Nobody of us knows.

As I said to mondo in a PM, to lose one XP2400+ doesn't hurt mondo as much as it would a minor cruncher - although that doesn't make the whole thing right. In the end, TA can't do anything about something like that, it's up to Dringdahl and mondo to solve the issue.

I find this kind of thinking ... regressive. Kind of like Income Taxes here in the US ... steal from the rich and give to the poor. The rich can afford more so tax them at a higher rate ... make everyone "equal" ... with this thinking, I should be penalized for bringing more computers to the projects and should be required to "handicap
myself so that those with lesser capabilities are made to be equals.

Frankly, I find that point of view repugnant and not helpful. I also find that point of view arrogant and intolerant. "Who is John Galt?"

mondo

"Who is John Galt?" may have been mondo's "sign" that he was leaving the TeAM? Devoted Ayn Rand followers apparently use it as expression of despair with the state of the world (TeAM?). Just a thought.

I know I've only been a member of the TeAM for a couple of months but I thought this response to BlackMountainCow was very harsh. He solicited opinions and BlackMountainCow offered a valid philisophical point of view.

On a lighter note, I believe he would have had to declare the "fair market value" of the computer as income to the IRS on his taxes

Ditto. Seems like he had a bit of chip on his shoulder. I was scared to say much after that rather blistering reply.

And declaring taxes on the computer--good point. Maybe Dringdahl was just lookin' out for mondo--keepin' the tax man off his back!!

We'll likely never know.

Best of luck with whatever projects and whichever teams you work on/with Mondo.

I'm sure that science can benefit from the hordes--and that IS the main idea here--right?

Wow, way too much TeAm drama these days

I crunched for our FaD TeAm, but I must have joined after the contest, as the team captain (DRingdahl) was nowhere to be found at the time. From what I see, Dwight should pay up to Mondo, as he won fair and square. However, I don't think Mondo should leave it up to us- it's between him and Dwight. That's just the way it is, Dwight came up with the contest, not the whole TeAm.

Now it looks like Mondo has left Rosetta, and possibly BOINC altogether...I view that as punishing the whole TeAm, over a contest that was between 2 members a year and a half ago. I don't see where that's fair.

Mondo, if you want to leave the TeAm, it's your call....personally, I'd like you to stay and help us help others by finding some cures I recall you've said it's about the science, not points. Whatever you decide, I hope you continue to contribute to the science.

Ok guys ...

I removed myself from the TeAM in the projects that DRingdahl participates in (Rosetta, PrimeGrid, CPDN) ... more or less "going to a neutral corner" while this thread ran it's course. Besides, my contributions to these projects is marginal and it seemed to me that my withdrawal from these projects temporarily or even permanently would have little or no significance for TeAM in the long run. It was in the line of a political statement rather than a real desire to leave TeAM.

It is not, nor has it been my intent to remove myself from TeAM and I am happily crunching away on SIMAP and SETI for TeAM. I plan to continue with TeAM for as long as you will have me.

My response to BMC was harsh and really inexcusable. My appologies to BMC. This was kind of a triple witching situation. I was responding in part to PM from a couple weeks ago that was unfairly acrid, I was smarting from his consistent, perceived as intentional, failure to recognize or mention any milestones in the Rosetta project and the position that he expressed that I did not favor. I definitely over reacted and went over the top and I am sure that following through on my decision to withdraw from Rosetta was, in no small part, based on this overreaction as well. I, inappropriately, sniped at BMC when it was not necessary or helpful. I am sorry about that. --- that and a couple too many beers got the better of my judgement ... as well as having way too many windows open and confusing the my account page from SIMAP and SETI with the other three and being just a little to0 thorough. I corrected that within minutes ... I didn't even think that would show up ...

You mean your wife has you on low carb beer. Thank God my wife can't stand the stuff. Working on a Fosters myself.

bty dringdahl hasn't produced anything in Rosetta for at least 2 weeks. Neither has BMC for that matter.

A couple of years ago I ran a few contests giving away computers for SETI WUs. I did my best to control things and ended up giving away at least 3 systems. I still had someone complain. I ended up sending them a system even though they didn't win, based on the rules I laid out.

I feel like Petr and wish we knew Dringdahl's side of the story.

I guess I was lucky when I did the ATWE with Distributed Folding. The race was fun, all the prizes left my doorstep (and the others that donated as well) and we all had a great time.

......... Then the project withered up and died.......

Karma sucks!
