Trust me, I have went through the same situation, but I respected them enough to reconsider my choices. Now, I can't thank them enough.

Parents really do know what is best for you. But you may find that difficult in your own naive youthful perspective.

When I was in high school, I thought about dying my hair blue for a while. I didn't do it cause I thought it would look cool (I didn't realy give a crap what my hair looked like... still don't), but because I wanted people to look at me and think "WTF?". But, my parents thought about the same thing that your parents do, and I decided not to do it. It's jsut hair. Is it really worth all that tension with the people you have to live with everyday? How much is your hairstyle worth to you?

i would say that it isn't worth ruining our relationship. but we don't have a relationship. we have never got along. and a fight like this isn't uncommon. they did the same stuff with my older sister. and it didn't work well.

Your parents, being older and wiser than you, correctly recognize this. And no, I'm not some smirking old man. I'm a teenager, and my mom's quite the bitch. But I'd expect my parents to smack the hell out of me if I came up with such a silly idea as getting a mohawk.

its their house... they let you live there, why don't you try going along with their wish for a while. Or you could move out, pay all your own bills and do whatever the hell you want.

Good point about the cops and employment ability.

If you are a senior and graduating this year, then you better be able to support yourself and not mooch of your parents. If you can obtain and retain a job, then I, as a parent, would let you make your own decision (mistake in my opinion).

Here is a thought: if you are a junior this year, then maybe ask them to comprimise by allowing you to have the mohawk until school starts.

fighting with your parents is anti-productive, it just predisposes them to say no to the next thing too.

that said, kids have to win sometimes. as a parent, every time I'm tempted to dig my heels in I ask myself "is this the hill I want to die on?".. is it really important? hair always fails to pass the test. it's just hair. it'll grow back. I wouldn't pay for blue hair, or a mohawk, I'd not like it, I'd attempt to discourage it, but I'd not forbid it.. a mohawk, even blue, is not important enough to go to war over. tattoos.. facial piercings.. I might choose to die there while the child is still a minor (beyond that I can just cross my fingers and hope). hair.. that's a silly thing to fight over. let the kid get a mohawk. maintaining it has got to be a chore, he'll get tired of it soon enough.

but.. advice about your parents? stop looking at them as adversaries. you want to be able to make adult choices, act like an adult. you're never gonna win anything, fighting with them.

ahh the good ol days of high school with the Socs and the Greasers and everyone trying to be different and unique and ultimately ending up looking and acting exactly like every other person which they're trying to be different from. make sense? i don't buy the "i don't care what others think, its for myself" line. the whole dressing up to be different and freaky gets old and tired, especially towards the end of HS. just grow up
