I grew up in the 90s and only briefly had a SNES - my dad made me get rid of it. As soon as I was able to, I started getting into emulation. I've always been fascinated by the SNES, it seems like it was just at that right intersection of technology and imagination. It wasn't very realistic, but it looked good and had amazing sound.
Anyway, Analogue has released their Super NT console, and I bought one: https://www.analogue.co/pages/super-nt/
It's an FPGA emulation of the original SNES with a few refinements. The sound appears to be mixed at a higher rate, the colors are sharp, and it of course supports HDMI. It's otherwise compatible with original Japanese and US SNES games and most accessories. It also comes with a game, Super Turrican 2.
I also purchased an SD2SNES, an SD card reader built into a SNES cartridge so that you can plug it in to a SNES or SuperNT and have it load up any ROMs you have. SD2SNES comes with 17 original games available for download. Here's a link: https://stoneagegamer.com/sd2snes-base.html
I love this thing. It's so very much nicer than the SNES Classic that Nintendo put out recently. The image and sound quality are better and the input lag is so much better. I was a complete mess on the SNES Classic when playing Super Mario World, but I was hitting jumps like a master on the SuperNT.
Does anyone here have a SuperNT or SD2SNES? Do you game on a regular or modded SNES? I've been playing Final Fantasy 5, which is just a fantastic game. Square has really fallen a long way in the last 20 years. Anyway, if you've got any SNES related stuff you want to post, let's hear it. Just please do not post links to ROMs or other illegal content.
