Evidently he is going to Apple, confirmed by a spokesperson supposedly. Also saw that Brian Klug got absorbed into the Apple maw as well, which would explain his sudden and complete disappearance.

I wonder what he's going to do there. It's too bad, because I really liked where AnandTech was going when Anand and Brian were doing semi-regular podcasts. Better and more informative than most other tech podcasts.

Anand Lal Shimpi, the editor and publisher of the well-regarded AnandTech site, is going to work at Apple.

An Apple rep confirmed that the company was hiring Shimpi, but wouldn’t provide any other details.

Last night, via a post on the site he founded in 1997, Shimpi said he was “officially retiring from the tech publishing world,” but didn’t say what he was doing next. “I won’t stay idle forever. There are a bunch of challenges out there ”, he wrote.

Unlike many tech publications, AnandTech focused much of its energy on the guts of new devices, via reports on chips and other hardware components. In Shimpi’s words: “AnandTech started as a site that primarily reviewed motherboards, then we added CPUs, video cards, cases, notebooks, Macs, smartphones, tablets and anything else that mattered.”

Shimpi’s post also announced that AnandTech would continue publishing, and would be run by new editor in chief Ryan Smith.

Very sad to see him leave the tech journalist world. I am very curious about what he will be doing for Apple.

Idk, sadly the coverage has been going downhill. Remember these? I do, these articles are the reason I stuck around:

Conroe: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2045
G80: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2116
RV770: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2679
SSDs: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2738
RV870: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2937

The articles you got here used to be unlike any other site. Incredibly insightful, in-depth, and without bias. They were so good that I remember reading each of these, even from the 2 from 2006.

Shit was cash.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen one of these in a long time, and I doubt I'll be seeing any more in the future. RIP

Ian Cutress does a good job with CPUs, and Ryan Smith with graphics cards. This article just came out Friday:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8426/...review-core-i7-5960x-i7-5930k-i7-5820k-tested

I know not everyone is a fan of mobile, this site traditionally being more focused on desktop hardware, but that's where coverage has really suffered over the past few months. There's just not a lot of articles on anything except the big releases.

How did he get so bald at only 32?
Someone at work is the same way. He eventually just shaved his head.

I've still got most of mine, but it's certainly on its way to turning gray. 32.
My dad's hair was mostly gray before he turned 30.

As I said.

He's younger than I am! I wish I could have retired at his age.

Gonna miss his in depth reviews etc, the man has an unbiased style that has kept me coming back to the site. (Ironically I noticed in the Haswell-E thread that someone posted that Anand hadn;t been posting many articles recently. I think this explains it!)

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication, you WILL be missed.

He retired from Anandtech. I'm sure he's gonna go work on something else.

How the heck did he lose his hair at 32? I remembered a pic of him in 2012 or something when he still had a rug.

With all of that Apple crap he was getting into it was only a matter of time before he fully quit.

Kinda makes sense... He's always had a soft spot for Apple products.

I still remember that "Who really needs user replaceable phone batteries?" post he made awhile back... That one left me wondering if he was selling out.

Yeah he won't be able to stay on at AT and work for Apple because of his vested interest.
And AT's direction towards more reviews on mobile devices (still no Mantle review yet?) was probably another indication.

Congrats Anand. While your in depth reviews will be missed I hope we continue to hear from you in some other form in your new role at Apple. If you are able to put as much into your work there as you have been able to with Anandtech then we will all likely benefit.
