I found this site after the move from Geocities and have been a regular reader since. Yes, the writing improved and the scope of coverage really expanded, but the approach to reviews, news and trends made this one of the three or four sites that I keep referring to for general tech information, knowledgeable answers to my questions and for the camaraderie of the community, contentious as it might sometimes be. Good luck and best wishes in whatever you choose to do now and in the future, Anand, and thank you for all Anandtech represents!

Don't count on it. Read the page, he is 100% done and only wants to offer guidance of needed.

It is nice to have a change of hands. His main reviews are all selected on a basis of extreme personal bias, and cannot even comment fully on aspects of hardware/software/products because as he said - doesn't interest him or can give a proper perspective outlook.

If it wasn't for Anand, they may not have the tools and facilities to give out hard numbers (which aren't all telling of end use cases). But for me, all he does is emphasize these (along with the glorified products nowadays). Used to be he was excited about micro architecture, motherboards, and video cards and give great analysis (for those who don't have a computer engineering or electrical engineering degree and to those who do), but he has seen it all - and he has become an "old-timer" in being a bit dried up in reviews.

In essence, a fresh mind leading is not a bad thing.

Thanks for all the memories. I haven't visited here in ages, but first started hanging out in here around 1998 with the Buy.com monitor snafu (either in Hot Deals or what caused Hot Deals to be started -- I forget now). I was even a mod for a while, before I moved on to other hangouts -- as I'm guessing most of the crew I grew up with did.

I saw your announcement on HackerNews and figured I'd stop in to say hi, and wish you and your successors the best of luck.

I began visting Anandtech around 1997. Back then, I was, unsolicitedly, helping to promote Abit and their SoftMenu feature - world's first configurable BIOS - and began seeing the amazing benefits of such a venture. Getting free stuff (and other perks) was so pleasing, it almost made me consider the same path as Anand.

However it takes a certain temperament to run an Internet hardware site. I give credit to Anand (at 14yo) for being wise beyond his years. He has continually been highly professional and principled enough to always place hardware as the top priority.

I will always have a fondness in my heart for Anand's legacy in the formative years of the Internet's hardware community. It was a nice ride. Good luck in whatever you do.

Haven't read all the pages yet but retiring doesn't necessarily mean no longer receiving money from ad revenues right? I'm hinting at something more by that. Meaning if he STILL gets ad money then if something goes wrong like some illegal activity by Anandtech and bad publicity from it then would he share some responsibility?

He's no longer Editior in Chief, but I do think he is still CEO of Anandtech.
