However, given how often I drive over my notebook, gosh it seems like that happens every day, maybe I should look into a Thinkpad.

That is my problem with Apple laptops- when it comes time to fix them they are TERRIBLE. I have had many, and inside thanks to their "build quality" you have to mess with special small screws, parts that "just fit" together (and therefore require force to get them apart), and tons of tape. I have had a few, and my family have had a few and going forward I would much rather a Lenovo due to the fact that I can actually fix a Lenovo without dedicating a weekend.

As far as Mac desktops go- don't get me started. Except for the Mini (which I have convinced myself is a HTPC and not a regular PC to feel better about its existence), the Mac desktop lineup can really make you feel like Apple is in a holy way with geeks. Yep that is exactly what I want in a desktop Apple- something that is JUST as difficult to replace parts in as your notebooks!

The sad part is that I have loved OSX before Panther, so I keep getting drawn to their computers. Thank God for hackintoshes so I don't have to mess with their desktops, that is probably the only reason I have stuck with OSX. Of course now that Lion is coming out with a bunch of features that scream "we are gonna merge this with iOS on the next update!" maybe its time for me to move on....

I have just witnessed the textbook definition of thread hijacking!

BTW, has anyone heard anything new about when the OTA update will be coming out? Hopefully Anandtech will update their review after it comes out.

I think they stated within 10 days mid last week.

Give the Thinkpad X220 a try. It has better battery life than a MBP 13, a better screen (an IPS panel while the MBP is a TN), and is also lighter.

I think also that the performance isn't as good as the 13.3" MBP... but then again, I am paying a premium over the lenovo

My X220 has the exact same cpu/gpu as the base MBP and there are identical i7 upgrades for both laptops as well. The two laptops literally could not have more similar performance.

when I repaired a MBP recently, it was a bunch of star screws, and 1 cable that connected everything! It was actually quite easy... the iMac was borderline nightmare-ish...

Yes, it is higher quality and your opinions aren't any better than anyone else's. However, I'll bow to the majority of reviewers and professionals, and my own experience, and state that the MBP is the highest quality notebook on the market. In this case, the majority is right. You haven't offered credible facts to hold up your position, just conjecture.

"It's still the industry standard in terms of design and quality..."

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/04/macbook-pro-review-early-2011/

Just because you guys have a bee in your ass over Apple doesn't mean that people who appreciate Apple's designs and quality are wrong. As for the "value", I'll spend $400 more for a MBP over a Thinkpad. I don't think that's a lot of $$$ for something that I'll use every day for work, my job reimburses me for 50% of the cost anyway. It's well worth it for a premium machine that can easily jump back and forth between OS X and Win7.

However, given how often I drive over my notebook, gosh it seems like that happens every day, maybe I should look into a Thinkpad. :hmm: The truth is, the only thing that marginally survived on the Thinkpad after the guy ran it over was the HDD. You want cheaper, buy cheaper, there's no crime in that, but don't rip on a product just because you hate the company.

Blah, blah, blah. More fanboy crap.

ThinkPads are better laptops, no matter if you're looking at reliability or build quality. Design is subjective, but I happen to like how they look more.

Stay on topic, no one cares that Apple or Lenovo's products are better in a Touchpad thread.

just messed around with a touchpad at best buy. Was wonderfully surprised. Though, yes, plastic does feel a little cheap, the product doesn't feel cheap at all.

Hulu does feel pretty awesome, i gotta say...
