We're currently doing a final test import of FT over to vB. The mods/admins will get first access when it's done. The plan was to launch vB with the new AT site redesign in Q4 but we moved things around to prioritize the vB transition.

I'm 27 now, started at 14. Working 60 - 80 hour weeks for most of the past years definitely make me feel old now I still feel young at heart. This past September took a lot out of me, was pushing 14 - 18 hour days for 7 days straight for all but 3 days of the month (minus airport time).

I was married for a short period of time, not everything makes sense to do at a very young age - learned that the hard way, but it was a good lesson. Girlfriend though, super talented photographer. Life is good, parents are well and healthy. I'm happy.

Oh and the hair - I think my dad is partly to blame for that, although he lost his a bit later than me I don't mind though, I've never relied on looks (and definitely not hair) to impress

I do want to do video in the future. If I can make it work, it'll be a 2010 thing.

Take care,
Anand

p.s. depending on your definition, only half durka durk, but born in MA

Pics of said GF? this is OT afterall

thanks for the VB update

Haha, even Anand isn't immune from the rules.

Good to see Patrick Norton still hosting / talking tech. Always enjoyed watching him during the TechTV days. I'll have to keep an eye out for the SSD video. Would be interested to hear what Anand has to say about the current and upcoming offerings.

Thanks for the update... Hope you had a pre-nup!!

What part of "learned that the hard way" did you not get.

That and theres a reason he does not talk about his house/home theater, or his OLD house/home theater.

nope.

male-pattern baldness is an x-linked trait...(iirc). and as such, a male with the trait (which would always be expressed) would pass to the daughter, who would (likely) be a non-expressing carrier (recessive, so needs 2 copies in homogametic sexes to express). Being that only one of her X's gets sent to a son, and if it is the X carrying the baldness gene, it will express in males as they have only the one X.

This is for male-pattern baldness, mind you.

because of this heredity, it is impossible for the father to pass it to a son, as the son only receives the father's Y. (but again, only in male-pattern baldness. I believe there are other types described)

Females do express a baldness trait, but I'm not sure it's the same pattern. Though being that this needs 2 X's carrying the trait for a female to express, it would follow with how rare it is in females.

I want to do video, my plan was to do it this year, but this year turned out to be even busier than expected. I actually did some sample stuff, playing with different formats, delivery, etc... that never made it to the site. The tekzilla stuff makes me want to try a few more things. I have a problem with wanting to do more than I have time to, so I need to be careful not to get too excited until I can make it work

Take care,
Anand

Sweet, video reviews that are like that Tekzilla video would be amazing. Impressive!

LOL "sooner than you think", {Perhaps April 1st? }.

Beta forums open ... the address leaked, so we will be skipping our limited beta process and rather just announcing the opening of the beta server here.

http://vbforums.anandtech.com

you will need to reset your password and have it emailed to you.

We are fielding applicants for a semi-open beta test of our vB servers. We still don't have a date for opening the beta server let alone doing the final migration, but we want to make sure we've got all our beta testers vetted and setup in advance of our beta server so that we can get everything going as soon as possible.

Requirements:

1) You must have been a registered member for at least 3 months as of now.

2) You must have been somewhat active during the past 3 months and have a minimum of 100 posts.

Beta access will be given on a first come first serve basis.

In order to apply, please post in this thread only once. Feel free to leave a comment -- any comment will be considered an application for a beta account. If you post more than once, we may remove your name from consideration.

Thanks!

We are accepting suggestions and feedback on vB plugins. If you have any thoughts or advice on what we should install, please make them here.

There are no guarantees that suggestions made here will be carried out, but we are definitely listening to your feedback and will use it to help us make the best decisions possible wrt forum features.

We do already have a few plugins in mind, with the most invasive right now being that we will put censorship control in the hands of the members. Unregistered viewers will see **** while registered members will see the censored word by default. Members can choose to enable censorship for themselves.

This is also your opportunity to make feature requests. Please let us know what you want.

I think Rossman is Anand.

And also, FWIW, I did not understand a word that came out of his mouth -- why doesn't he just go work for Intel or AMD? Seems intelligent enough. Or is he getting some tradeoff by testing out Intel's technology?

I think adding videos would be a very interesting improvement to the site, something that you should think about start doing when the said site re-design gets completed. It should help get more traffic to the site, and plus you might be able to do what Tek did, and mention/thank sponsors, so you could pull in additional revenue for AT -- because we all know the forum use is probably killing your bandwidth, and no AT'ers ever click the ads

That's actually a pretty good idea. It seems being mentioned in a video review (or something similar) would be worth quite a bit more than a 3x2" flash ad.

Anand, thanks for vB update! I was beginning to think all was lost.

Anand, though you posted and probably left, to not revisit this thread. But good video, and I am glad this site exists, and these forums.

Take care.
