Anand's x1950p review: CrossFire Done Right

If you can't dazzle 'em w/brilliance, baffle 'em w/bs, as is done in this case w/the complexity of the product names:

X1900 = nearly twice the performance of X1950 Pro.

Makes perfect marketing sense to me.

I was surprised to see the card at BestBuy when I went in yesterday.
So I got one for $299.99

The guy does video card benchmarking professionally... Should he really need to be told to bench before bitching? Honestly, I don't really care as I wouldn't have bought an X1950GT either way (and neither would you), the point is more the way this was handled by AT. On one hand they did the right thing by bringing it to our attention, but fell short because they didn't actually show the difference.

what does that have to do with "paper launch"? i didn't realize you were questioning the price... i guess if you can't slam ati on availability, you move on to price?

still, as with anything else, those first in line to get a newly released video card tend to pay more... what do you expect from a B&M store such as Bestbuy (i paid $399 to be one of the first ones with a 6800GT)? i'm pretty certain you'll see online vendors "gouging" initially as it seems to be a pattern the last couple of years.

your analogy is ridiculous . . . but i still do like ATi . . . as in everything else, their marketing has been the lesser of the two evils, imo.

if ATi actually DID change the specs after shipping - as Derek contends - it would be dishonest. As it is, the burden of proof falls on the author of Anand's article for failing to provide complete info and for failing to show any difference.

not to mention nvidia products. the 1900GT was never a good value when measured against other cards, whether they were ATI or Nvidia.

I bought one... at just the wrong time; the 1900xt 256meg versions were not out yet, so the x1900xt was like $350 or so and I got my 1900GT for like $230, which was similar in price to the 7900gt yet the 1900 was faster in Oblivion and that was the only game I was planning on playing.... so anyway, it was right at the time. Anyway, it OCs very well, too, and does Oblivion maxed out just fine so I'm happy.

We would rather they just run out of x1900 GT cards. They're discontinuing the line anyways, so it seems a little strange to try to increase supply by underhanded means.

The x1900gt, (both versions) has been dumped several times at great prices. At regular prices - get something else.

the Author of th Article [not i] - Derek Wilson - claimed that ATi is dishonest because they downgraded the GT's specs AFTER it shipped.

1) we know ATi informed the AIBs that the specs would be changed
2) we don't know for a fact that the performance is lower since he didn't back up his assertion

therefore - we may conclude -Dereck Wilson may not be trusted in his impartiality in future articles

i SIMPLY quoted the article and make a flat out statement - read the whole damn thread . . . not C&P an 'excerpt' - IF he is right [IF ati did what DW accused them of] - THEN it sucks

now that we have FURTHER information it seems Derek Wilson is NOT to be trusted in his impartiality. He is not impartial. Not such a good reviewer either.... certainly NOWHERE near the stature of Anand.

I think Derek is a good reviewer. Just not sure why he let the change in specs of the gt boil over at this time. Anyways who cares, seems to be a dead end sku at this time.

and Derek Wilson is a decent reviewer - usually. He just isn't of Anand's thoroughness and he lets his bias slip.
