Hell no, lol. He said VB/VC# .NET which has nothing whatsoever to do with any of that. I didn't know COBOL still existed, I thought it died out with Latin...

I am fairly certain there is a COBOL.Net where you write .net stuff in COBOL. Don't know much about it though.

I think that with a community like this, there's a tremendous opportunity for exploitation. I mean, you've got thousands of technically capable people and even though we're not all experienced .net developers, you've still got a much better audience than your average shop. Plus the fact that there's a huge attraction for doing something so visible besides all the other job perks. I'm sure you've already reasoned that you could get away with this for far less than normal if you wanted.

You could even do something where you pick 20-30 (and the number could float from time to time). Release the source to only those and treat it like a very controlled open source project. For a little extra management effort, you'd get your coding for free. How many devs do you have working for you right now?

A little more on the fanciful side, if you could figure out a way to turn 1000s of unreliable home pcs on consumer internet connections into a grid providing a reliable database, cruncher and network presence, you could get all your infrastructure for free. Think about it: how many of us would be happy to download a little seti-like program and sacrifice a gb or two, some processor time and network bandwidth to be able to say that we help run the anandtech forums! (Alright, that was *really* fanciful. Maybe 20 years down the road of computer science.)

A few comments. I am a web developer, though not a .net or C# guy (pretty much Java/JSP/struts). While I don't qualify for this job, anyone that does is going to want to know the tax arrangement, number of hours/week, etc before talking with you further. Is this a full time job? Independent contractor, or full employee? That will at least get you the right kind of people asking about the job rather than people who don't match with the kind of business arrangement you're looking for.

I've got a 4th degree blackbelt in C# (ok maybe not that good, but I'm pretty good)

And I would be interested if I knew how many hours this would require.

So what exactly are you looking for, more information would be useful. Since you seem to focus on .NET languages, what about C++.NET? I know C++ and I know enough of C#. Dislike VB with a passion, but I do know it (I have to use it at work). Preferred language is C++, preferred web language is Python. I know the standards of html and css and adhere to them strictly. I managed IIS webservers in the few years past. Although I've never used MsSQL directly (I assume that is what you are using considering how Microsoft oriented everything else is), I have and do use PostgreSQL and MySQL. I run Win2k3 at home, and Win2k at work, domains with both. I do not have a great deal of time, but I can create and debug a great amount of code in a small time period. Would I be useful? If so, I shall email a résume.

I submitted my resume for review. I am a senior .NET developer, I've built/worked-on/maintained several high-end websites including buccaneers.com where I was the webmaster for the 2002-2003 season. I've also built several .NET desktop apps and utilities, and am a senior-level SQL DBA (mainly SQL2000). I've been freelancing for almost 2 years now, and have a significant amount of free time this time of the year.

Hope you guys aren't too flooded with resumes

I have a website with a resume and some project examples and information about myself and my work, if any admins read this feel free to check my profile or email me for more information.

Thanks,

- dotnetguy

Oh I wish I new C# or VB's .NET functions so bad right now!

I know I could learn it easy enough, but I need time to do that and I need to have time to do that.
