How are you ranked? When I try sorting by popularity, I get a blank page :^/

I'm losing places and I'm miles behind first. Currently 10th. But it's kind of a joke, at least half of the top 10 are terrible pictures. People are just abusing the votes like I am

Definitely a beautiful picture, congrats, altho to be honest something in me craves to see the whole boat more clearly within the pic's framing.

/edit: and voted (149!)

No it's framed perfectly. Having the whole boat in the frame or in other words having some water on the other side of it would ruin the mood.

You couldn't have the whole boat in the frame anyway because it's docked against a wharf.

I agree with Locut0s that any negative space on the right would ruin the framing. However Gayner is right, the boat is up against a wharf which limited my framing options anyway.

The full picture makes the shot look more industrial, and ordinary. The published picture looks quaint.

Besides which unless your subject is a portrait a flower or something similar, our you are doing macro photography, you rarely want to centre your subject. The so-called rule of 1/3rds they tell everyone is basically just there to pound this idea into the heads of newb photographers. You really shouldn't shoot everything using the 1/3rds rule but the basic idea of off centring your subject is right. Doing so usually creates a much more interesting photograph. The open space to one side helps offset your subject of interest and creates a more emotionally resonant image. Think of it as metaphorically giving the viewer some room to think about your picture.
