THEMES. EDITING POSTS. SMALLER FONTS.

I have 27" WQHD monitors, and I can only see a few, very short posts at a time without scrolling. Can't edit my previous posts. Color of this theme is giving me a headache after a few minutes... why can't we select our own theme, like most forums allow? Themes with contrast!!

I found another issue :
The embedding of youtube links with a time offset, does not work. The video is loaded from the start instead.

https: //youtu. be/ -gXrS6eKfjk?t=1753
Does not work, it is executed as :

https: //youtu. be/ -gXrS6eKfjk

Another vote to ditch the "Like" button.

Also, I don't see a way to search this topic. I'm either missing it, it hasn't been added yet or it is being blocked by on of my add-ons.
Apparently it's a core feature though. I'm not really sure what that means since I know of another forum that uses this software but doesn't have likes, but they're core.

First some positive feedback: This theme is actually useable on smartphones without Tapatalk. The old one was terrible to navigate.

For the theme itself, aside for it being too bright I'd say as a general feedback it's wasting too much space on desktop screens regardless of viewing format. You could start compacting it by killing the like button

Hrm, I think the "like" button would eliminate all the redundant "This", "That", "Thems", "What that guy said", "/thread" posts.

OMG this is awesome! I've been using xenforo on another site for years and it's head and shoulders above the rest.

Kudos to anandtech for switching!

As of right now:

Good
Mobile site looks better & functions better.
Appears to load faster
Bad:
Far, far too white, constant avatars everywhere gives it a cutesy apple feel that I hate, can't figure out how to edit, mobile site picture on top right too cutesy and tapping it goes to an unformatted screen
I'll end with good incase you're younger than me. Decent change, performance feels faster, easy change.

wow, I do NOT like this new forum software at all. Things are gigantic, can only see about two one line posts at a time. Maybe there are other themes, I need to look. But thus far, not a happy camper. I realize this is most likely cheaper than vbulletin, but why not go with PHPBB or something more standardized? Maybe I am biased because I run a decently sized PHPBB forum, but I find it MUCH nicer to use than this.

And what's the deal with the "Members" tab at the top, next to the primary Forums tab?

"Notable members" "Members online" "new profile posts" ....there seems to be no purpose to this. Is this some kind of pretend ranking system that is as empty and as vile as the "like" button?

I know absolutely that you have other priorities right now after such a conversion/upgrade, but we really need alternate themes and/or ways to change the colors. (For now, I am using a FF extension "Color That Site!" to adjust the colors, it's hurting my eyes otherwise).

I have seen on the actual Xenforo forum that Xenforo (no suprise) is super-complex, and the default theme looks actually "decent", so no question there is huge room for tweaks.

Also: Left navigation/category bar...PLEASE....and all the information on the right I think is relatively (ok, correction: absolutely) worthless. "5 new posts" in such a big forum is silly, the information about online members, staff online etc. is not needed.

The blinking green dot when a user is online is more annoying than actually helpful/useful.

Those are actually all MINOR tweaks since with only a little tweaking of the colors in the mentioned extension it's actually...useable. Now add the left navi button and it would be great

and would remove the actual value of that post--the member being quoted that many more times actually adds value to the comment. No one pays attention to "likes." ..well, except maybe teenage girls with 1000 facebook "Friends"

I mentioned this in the other thread. Likes are IN PRINCIPLE good, but make them meaningful! For example, when posts get stars depending on the nr. of likes....indicating interesting/quality posts. The current implementation is "meh", I have seen better on some other forums.

Not true! No one pays attention like it is right now since likes really don't serve a purpose. I have seen forums where each post/reply can get stars, and rest assured it adds value when you come across posts that have MANY stars (ie: likes), making posts stand out because of their quality etc. It CAN be done in a meaningful and constructive way so "likes" fulfill an actual purpose.

This

See, that added no value. As much false value as a "like".

It did. Now people see it again. People read that post dozens of more times and if more people directly quote it again rather than just hit "like," the more people will see it and read the words again and again.

the value is in the repetition. Likes are just empty digits attached to nothing. Not saying the repetition makes it more "right," it just has an actual effect on the idea if the member that does like it, makes it shown again. A well-supported-comment that appears once in a thread vs the same well-supported comment appearing a handful or dozens of more times. That is a very real and very clear difference.

And I don't think it makes it more messy. It actually allows for a conversational tone--something that social media doesn't really understand.
