Another bug report,
I noticed another strange thing :
When i play a song from the music thread, and activate the player from within the thread, the text does not get quoted when i want to reply while the player is playing.
I have to stop the player first to get all text quoted from the post i try to reply to.

Hope i help out with mentioning all the strange effects i see.

A quick fix to the theme might even be to just play with different shades of gray in the CSS. Add a bit more contrast between different parts of the page, like edit box, post area, etc. Darken it just a bit.

You can even change accent colors (I'm partial to sloth) and font on the fly at the bottom of the page, or try a different theme.

If it needs to be free, I think Tin would work well (but with different background - preferably just black or dark grey - than the default). I'm partial to any dark theme where the main background is set to black, the forum container background is dark grey, and forum thread titles/hyperlinks are light blue. True black should be slightly beneficial for power consumption on AMOLED screens, too.

For a not-super-dark but softer than current theme, Zinc looks great.

Give it another go. We've been having issues with avatar uploads, which we believe we've resolved a little while ago.

Is there still a size limit on files? If so:
a) it should clearly be stated in the dialog box, and
b) an error message should be generated if the file is too large

If you didn't clear your browser cache before trying, please do so.

The size limit is currently set to 500,000 bytes (changed from previous unlimited). There is no reason that an avatar would need to exceed that size.

There is no error message being generated because the problem was not with the XF settings or configurations, but something on the backend.

Agreed. 500k is way more than large enough. I just tried it again and after taking however long (30 seconds or so) it just reset the 'Choose File' field and reverted the text to 'No file chosen'.

Thanks for the details. I'll wait until I hear from a few other people before reporting this as unresolved. I'm not currently having any more problems with avatar uploads on either this account or my test account.

Tried again. Looks like the timeout is exactly 60 seconds.

Cleared all Chrome cache except for forms. Tried uploading a ~40k jpeg. No go.

12.6 KB won't upload. Just times out after "Connecting ..." for a minute or so. Didn't time it.
I got this .gif down to 6.46 KB and it finally uploaded, instantly.
I just reported in another thread below. Firefox 43.0.1

Sometimes the right sidebar is sticky, following me down the page. Sometimes it's not. I just refreshed this page in the middle of the page, and the right sidebar became un-sticky. I've noticed if I click a Like button, that often makes the right sidebar sticky again.

Just a general heads up for those who've been following this for their avatars: the issue should be resolved. Go wild with your avatar uploads—so long as the file sizes are under 500,000 bytes

I thought I read about this yesterday, but is there a way to stop having threads take you to the newest posts and just start at post 1. im betting tired of having to scroll backwards or change pages to get to the start of a thread when I click on it

also I think we have too many "home" icons, there is a house on the banner that takes you to the main site, the banner itself takes you to the main site, the house icon next to "forums" on both the header and footer take you to the main site

Hello there - great job with the forum upgrade and new modern look (I happen to love it, as I'm a whitespace fan)!

However I do wish to say this: I do not like that the new software shows the thread topic name in the URL. To most, that may not be a big deal; but I felt much more comfortable surfing at work (under the radar!) with the older forum not having thread URLs with the topic name in them.

While this is a tech forum at heart, and I mainly use it as such, it's easy to get caught up in some other non-tech topics here; and I'd rather it not be so obvious to our firewall guys. lol - so my forum participation will probably decrease. Shame. I'm guessing there is no option for that to be changed on a per-user basis, is there?

Oh, and my chosen avatar looks horrible now that it's cropped by a round, white circle. Probably best that I just change it here, shortly, before it gets on my nerves. [EDIT: Updated avatar - lol]

I'm aware as anyone that you guys can't have every base covered; I get it.

Anyways, our beloved Anandtech looks fresh and great. Thanks!

OK, maybe that was an issue with my desktop at home (Chrome, ver? on Win 10). tilde looks fine here at work (chrome, ver?, Win 8.1).

Or someone fixed it.

it might be chrome, they just did an update that disabled "directwire" fonts,

~ looks fine in IE at work
