I strongly endorse Reaper for recording software. I used it with a Tascam fire wire interface. Reaper has a great forum for community support where you can also find suggestions for really useful free plug ins and stuff.

Also Google for tweak's guide to home recording for good general info.

Also I used a POD XT from Line6 to record all the electric guitars. It's not as great as a properly recorded tube amp but it's so much easier and still really good.

Does Ukulele count? Just started my last year and now teaching my 7 year old daughter on a Soprano version.

I've been through my fair share of Line 6 products. Love them! I have tube amps but have had a POD HD500 and POD XT a few years ago. Very fun if you want to get a lot of options without spending the money on individual pedals. I just got rid of a M13 by Line 6, that thing was my MAIN board for a year, had everything you could want FX wise/tuner/looper. I downgraded to an m5 for a few FX(chrous, fuzz, delays and filters). That pedal alone is a BLAST for $100. I have a lot of fun with the synths in there too.

Another fan of the PODXT here as well. I used to to record as well, through Audacity and sometimes Reaper.
I had some bad latency issues at first, but with some tweaking it worked like a champ.

I started playing just this year. I have been using Rocksmith 2014 on my PS4. I like that it has a verity of songs, games, and lessons.

I will be checking out the YouTube videos that are mentioned in this thread.

Can some one help me pick out an amp? I have looked at the fender mustang since it can model other amps.

I started playing guitar in junior high by taking lessons for a few months. Since then it's been just myself trying to learn from tabs, in varying degrees of intensity. I haven't played anything for a few years though, besides a very short stint when I picked up Rocksmith last year.

It's something I wish I did more but I guess I just don't have the ambition, not for awhile. Could say that about learning/doing a lot of things.

I didn't progress too far in guitar though. I could play some punk songs (best genre evar) pretty well ("Change of Ideas", "Big Bang", "No Control" by Bad Religion; "Bath of Least Resistance" by NOFX, etc) and had a couple videos of me playing when I had a MySpace page, but I guess I'm too pussy to put anything up on YouTube.

I'm telling you, there is an inborn neurological and neurodevelopmental thing that is difficult to overcome after adulthood. I can practice a song 30x, move onto another song and practice it 30x, revisit the previous song and need to check the chord sheet because I can't remember all the chords. And we're talking only a five or six chord song here! It sucks.

I hear music in my head all the time, bordering on musical hallucinations. I can tell you what is out of pitch or whether someone is playing in the "wrong" (psycho-acoustically undesirable) key. I can tune using only one reference tone. I can get pretty damn close using no reference tone. I get music composition, timing, and all that. I just can't develop proficiency in playing an instrument. I mean, maybe I could if I became obsessive about it and be one of those people who spend four hours per day but I don't think anyone "chooses" to become obsessive about anything. Actually, I couldn't play four hours anyway because I get muscle cramps and fatigue after about 40 minutes. My fingers just cease to work with finer dexterity and become more like paws.

I recall it being much easier when I was 16. I shouldn't have taken that 20+ year hiatus!

I think we all have an internal "hard drive" limit. I can store about 40 songs at one time, and there are about 10 I never forget no matter how long I go without playing. I can summon "nothing else matters" any time, any where, the whole song. It's not the most complex tune but it has a couple parts that are tricky. Same thing with wonderful tonight.

I've always had an ok ear and I could generally figure out a tune in my head at my peak, except for really heavy fuzz solos or leads, like Crazy Train. Now I'm lucky if I can get 2-3 chords. I have never been able to write anything original despite being generally accepted as at least a B+ or A- player. How you say you hear music in your head? I don't have that. I'm just a robot who can copy songs.

I started playing around 1987. I kept with it for a number of years and played in a band and in church every week. At the time that I started I took lessons from a great teacher in Dallas, TX. Around 2001 I took a break from it and just this spring picked it back up. In hind site I wish I'd have kept at it, but things are coming back to me pretty well. I'm not a great player by any stretch of the imagination. I would say I'm a novice at best right now.

It's strange in getting back into it, I've noticed that chords come back to me easier than scales. But songs that I knew very well before I took a break, I find that I have to relearn most of them. Although a couple have stayed with me. I don't sing and have no desire to, so that part I don't have to worry about.

In hind site I wish that I would have stuck with it through the years but, as they say, hind sight is 20/20.
